'BREAKING THROUGH' - A message by Rev. Barbara Prose & Rev. Gerald L. Davis (Humanist Service)

All Souls Unitarian Church

The message was delivered on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry, and Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION Rev. Gerald Davis has been learning to maneuver with a walking stick for the visually impaired. Learning to walk with this type of aid is a high risk and greatly rewarding skill. In the spirit of our Trading Places series, I stepped into Rev. Davis's shoes. Working and walking along side Rev. Davis this month, I’ve experienced what breaking through feels like. Breaking through is taking risks, relying on physical and spiritual senses we've ignored, and learning to trust ourselves in new ways. If you are feeling stuck in any part of your life, this Trading Places Sunday is for you. Rev. Davis and I will share why we believe that there is no challenge you can’t face. *Music: Rick Fortner, piano, Matt Edwards, percussion, Josh Massad, percussion, Zachary Avery, singing bowls SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:

'IN CAME YOU' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis (Humanist Service)

All Souls Unitarian Church

The message was delivered on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION How often have you had the thought, "I am not able …"?
We come to this dead end when we put on our plate what we think is an overwhelming mess. The result, of course, is we do nothing and back away from the table.
In this time of confusion, steadily-unsteady leadership, and incoherence, it is easy to slip away under the shadow of distress. But here comes a word from an unknown source, that like a magnet pulls us back. I want to explore the mystic qualities of our historic journey as a community of faith. We are a people of many colors, beliefs, and odysseys. But still we rise and let us do so this Sunday! *Musical solo: Olivia Davis SUBSCRIBE TO AUDIO PODCAST: SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF: or text LOVEBB to 73256 LET'S CONNECT: Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:

'WHY SO ANGRY?' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis

All Souls Unitarian Church

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister. SERMON DESCRIPTION As I reflect on the nexus of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, the not guilty verdict of Officer Betty Shelby and Memorial Day, I question how anger fuels a painful heart. I intend to explore the consequences of unexamined pain. Our participation in this long journey toward justice depends on our willingness to examine our painful parts. 'IMAGINE WHAT LOVE CAN DO' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis

All Souls Unitarian Church

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister. SERMON DESCRIPTION Because I have always had low vision, being able to see became part of my identity. Thick glasses suggested a bookish countenance which meant I was expected to know something. It was only in my course of development did I realize knowing something is not vision. Vision has to have imagination. Comfortable Inaction - Rev. Gerald L. Davis

All Souls Unitarian Church

Sermon delivered on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Adjunct Minister.SERMON DESCRIPTIONAs we bid farewell to the sultry days of this record-breaking Oklahoma summer, we notice how we have gravitated toward states of being that do not move us to exertion. For sure, heat makes you weary. Our comfortable twenty-first century conditions make a distant memory of the kind of heat that sapped our strength and made early rising a must if there was to be any work done. We have become conditioned to the air conditioner. I’m not mad at ‘ya! Our bodies need that kind of relief. But what about our spirits? We constantly wage conflicts, regardless of the weather, between wanting to “do something” and comfortable inaction. I want to speak to your spirits about ways and means of moving outside our comfort zones.SUBSCRIBE TO PODCAST:VIEW ON YOUTUBE:SUBSCRIBE TO WATCH OTHER VIDEOS:GIVE A DONATION TO HELP US SPREAD THIS LOVE BEYOND BELIEF:LET’S CONNECT:Facebook: Twitter: All Souls Church Website:
