Ep. 44: Alan Bishop Returns with The Whiskey Witch
The Whiskey Ring Podcast
That's right, he's back! Welcome Whiskey Ringers to Episode 44, the return of the Alchemist himself, Alan Bishop. The star of this episode is one of Alan's newer concoctions, The Whiskey Witch, a wheat, oat, barley, and Indiana peat-smoked mash that defies categorization. Seriously - we don't know how this will be categorized! As always, this episode with Alan is a blast. I can't wait to visit Spirits of French Lick and see his Alchemist Cabinet in person. Indulging The Alchemist Alan Bishop's Passion for Whiskey Science, History, and Storytelling
Whiskey Lore: The Interviews
It's time for part two of my fascinating conversation with Alan Bishop, master distiller at Spirits of French Lick. We're going to dive more into some of the spirits he's produced, talk about capturing historic yeasts, discover what split brandy is, find some historic distilling sites in Indiana, and get a little more history around some of the names honored by Alan though the whiskies of Spirits of French Lick.
Forgotten Pre-Prohibition History of Indiana Distilling with Alan Bishop of Spirits of French Lick
Whiskey Lore: The Interviews
When I say Southern Indiana, you might not initially think distilling legacy, but if you think about it, the region is just as close to the Ohio River as Kentucky is. So when I invited Alan Bishop, a distiller, but also a documenter of whiskey history, a whole new amazing history opened up to me. Check out the stories of preacher-distillers, Prohibition antics, and legacies of great distillers that are finally seeing the light.
To start the year I made a list of people that I wanted to try and talk to on the podcast. Alan was at the top of that list and I wasn’t sure he’d agree to join me. This should be a fun one. If you don’t know who Alan is, you probably need to just go ahead and hit up his Instagram, blog, The Spirits of French Lick and Distillers Talk Podcast. Spirits of French Lick- Head distiller Alan Bishop and owner/director of operations Laurelin Doty
The Barrel Proof Baseball Podcast
In today's episode I am joined by Spirits of French Lick head distiller Alan Bishop, and owner/director of operations Laurelin Doty. This is absolutely one of my most enjoyable conversations to date. I'm pretty sure Alan is in the running for the most interesting man in the world award. Check out the episode and see why. And, go grab a bottle from Spirits of French Lick, out of Indiana. My personal favorite is the Mattie Gladden, but you definitely can't go wrong with any of them.
