Having the Wherewithal to Look Out for Yourself with John Freeman

Veteran Voices

In this interview, Veteran Voices host Mary Kate Soliva welcomes John Freeman, a U.S. Army Veteran and Director of Law Enforcement Operations at the Human Trafficking Institute. After being raised in a military family, he became a combat paratrooper and went on to serve and work in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, Panama, St. Criox, Nigeria, and Korea. It was while working as a Special Agent for the U.S. State Department in Korea as part of a visa/passport fraud detection unit that he came across a connection between many of the people they were investigating – just 5 IP addresses. It ended up being a crucial missing link between Korean organized crime and human trafficking. He had found the cause that would drive his work going forward.Mary Kate and John take this opportunity to discuss:• The surprise at finding himself on humanitarian missions while in the Army• Why transitioning out of the military can create such a feeling of insecurity and instability for Veterans• Just how pervasive and close to home the problem of human trafficking is todayAdditional Links & Resources:Learn more about Veteran Voices here: https://supplychainnow.com/program/veteran-voicesSubscribe to Veteran Voices and other Supply Chain Now programs here: https://supplychainnow.com/subscribeLearn more about Vets2Industry: https://vets2industry.org/This episode was hosted by Mary Kate Soliva. John Freeman calls himself the Stress Buster and he's on a mission.  A mission to prove that our priority should always be to feed our spirit - and everything else simply takes care of itself! He helps his clients turn stress & anxiety into a life of positive choices & freedom. I didn't initially agree with John's assertion that stress should not be tolerated or accepted as normal, until we got clear on how we were each defining it.  Labels matter! About John and key links: Speaker; Author of Vivid Visualisation: Success without Stress; Creator of the world's most effective meditation recordings; Founder (and Headmaster) of The Thriving School; Rapid stress & anxiety 1-1 recovery programs; THRIVE! a 12-week program to break free of unconscious programming and take charge of your life. https://bit.ly/thriving-school https://johnfreeman-stressbuster.com/--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rachel-woods7/message

Lauren Groff in Conversation with John Freeman

Books & Ideas Audio

Of all the attributes Lauren Groff possesses, range is surely one of them. Her “all-conquering” 2015 novel, Fates and Furies, was a literary masterpiece about a modern day marriage, creativity, and perception. Florida brought storms, snakes, and sinkholes to lurk at the edges of everyday life in strange, affecting stories. And her latest work, Matrix, a finalist for the 2021 National Book Award, explores the raptures and hardships of life in a 12th century convent, as told by seventeen-year-old Marie de France. USA Today called it "a relentless exhibition of Groff’s freakish talent." Hear from this fascinating mind—and one of our finest writers today—in a sold out conversation with author, poet, and editor John Freeman from the 2021 Vancouver Writers Fest.
