Kris & David are joined by Daniel Makabe (@danielmakabe) to discuss the week that was January 20-26, 2003. We talk about Hulk Hogan making yet another return to WWE, this time to heat up his angle with Vince McMahon for WrestleMania XIX in Seattle, which Dan attended. We also talk about all of the other WWE news, such as the dependance on big names and part-timers for WrestleMania that still goes on today, The Rock speaking with "Jake T. Icon" about his future in pro wrestling, John Hennigan & Matt Cappotelli winning contracts in the finale of Tough Enough season 3, and a set of house shows in Japan & South Korea, which included Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Ric Flair, Satoshi Kojima, & Keiji Mutoh all hanging out together in a fantastic story. Speaking of Japan, we go over basically all of the promotions—of which there are many—and we were all watching as much of it as we could at the time, so we have some interesting and detailed takes on what was going on. We also talk about the ECCW Pacific Cup in British Columbia that Dan also attended, plenty of lucha libre goodness that was marred by CMLL going into reruns in the U.S., a lawsuit over Ray Gonzalez in Puerto Rico, IWA Mid-South's 300th show and the shockingly big crowd it drew, and much more. Finally, in TNA, we talk about the weekly PPV featuring Dusty Rhodes beefing with Nikita Koloff, SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT XTREME, & the TNA debut of Raven, among other things. This was a tremendous show, one that features some old friends talking about the shit they loved and hated some 18 years ago.Timestamps:0:00:00 WWE2:41:29 Eurasia: AJPW, NJPW, NOAH, World Japan, Zero-One, BJPW, CMA, Eagle Pro, K-Dojo, Osaka Pro, Rainbow, Toryumon, WMF, Akira Maeda, AJW, Neo Ladies, & All-Star Wrestling3:44:00 Classic Commercial Break3:45:57 Housekeeping/The Amazon Game4:17:08 Other North America: Stampede, ECCW, CMLL, IWRG, Monterrey, & IWA Puerto Rico4:49:18 Other USA: CSWF, IWC, IPW, IWAMS, IWR, SDW, XPW, Kip Frey, & Portland Wrestling5:27:58 NWA-TNATo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. In the first of what will hopefully be a long-running series of interviews with luminaries of the grappling scene, mat maestro Daniel Makabe, in a chat recorded just before this year's Wrestlemania weekend, takes us through a hand-picked mixtape of his favourite puro matches, and tells us how they influenced his career and his thinking. With a diverse array of wrestling styles covered, it's a wide-ranging discussion that was an absolute blast to record, and the tangents on punk and football are very much in keeping with the PPP ethos. We learned a lot, and are sure you will too.MATCHES:4:29 - Antonio Inoki, Tatsumi Fujinami, Kengo Kimura, Kantaro Hoshino and Umanosuke Ueda vs. Akira Maeda, Nobuhiko Takada, Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Osamu Kido and Kazuo Yamazaki (NJPW, 26 March 1986) - dailymotion.com/video/x60ilzd27:53 - Akira Hokuto vs. Shinobu Kandori (AJW, 2 April 1993) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrSQyoEfAvQ44:03 - Atsushi Onita, Katsutoshi Niiyama and Mr. Gannosuke vs. Mr. Pogo, Hideki Hosaka and The Gladiator (FMW, 25 September 1994) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDvvTsuQufw1:06:51 - Shinjiro Otani (c) vs. Kazushi Sakuraba (UWA World Light Heavyweight Championship) (NJPW, 17 June 1996) - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x760nmb1:17:56 - Mitsuharau Misawa and Jun Akiyama vs. Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue (AJPW, 6 December 1996) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1KJ102doqE1:29:50 - Volk Han vs. Kiyoshi Tamura (RINGS, 22 January 1997) - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1wvyj01:46:11 - CIMA, Curry Man and Super Boy vs. Minoru Fujita, Jody Fleisch and Shiryu II (Michinoku Pro, 21 December 1999) - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xe1n8b2:17:31 - Minoru Tanaka (c) vs. Takehiro Murahama (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship) (NJPW, 20 April 2001) - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5ozmrr2:28:15 - Yuki Ishikawa vs. Daisuke Ikeda (Futen, 24 April 2005) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxRLkhX_yMs
