Maybe all three. So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say vanish or any forms of vanish that will be a single shot and every time I say Wisconsin, that will be a double shot. Yep, you guessed it; someone in the Midwest felt I wasn’t doing enough episodes in the Midwest. So I’ll try to hold back the Fargo accent, but no promises. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… so let’s put on our Sherlock hats and listen to the evidence in the Kidnapping/Murder/Disappearance of Evelyn Grace Hartley Evelyn Grace Hartley was born on November 21, 1937 in LaCrosse Country, Wisconsin. She is an American missing young girl, who cryptically vanished on October 24, 1953. Her vanishing started an inquiry including 2,000 people. In the year following her vanishing, the authorities and investigators addressed in excess of 3,500 individuals, and to this day, no hint of her has been found. Evelyn Hartley was a junior at Central High School at the time of her evident kidnapping. She was a straight-A student, associated with many school sports and exercises. Evie was an Officer at the Presbyterian Youth Program and Westminster Fellowship at her local Church and sang in the Choir. Her Pastor described her as “Quiet, Dependable and Devoted”.
On the week of Halloween in 1953, fifteen-year-old Evelyn Hartley was babysitting a baby girl while her parents were away at a football homecoming game. Within minutes of being alone at the home, Evelyn would disappear and only disturbing evidence would be left behind. While there have been a few suspects in her case, including an infamous killer, no sign of Evelyn has ever been found. Blood and footprints and little else told the story of what happened to 15-year old Evelyn Hartley when she disappeared from the house where she was babysitting. Ed Gein, the inspiration for Psycho, was right down the street...
October 24, 1953. La Crosse, Wisconsin. The father of 15-year old Evelyn Hartley attempts to phone her while she is babysitting an infant child, but there is no answer at the house. After travelling there to check on her, he discovers that Evelyn has disappeared and the evidence suggests she was the victim of a violent abduction by an intruder. Days later, pieces of blood-stained clothing are found outside of town which are believed to belong to Evelyn and her abductor. Over the next several decades, there would be a number of developments, including a possible connection to notorious murderer Ed Gein and the discovery of a tape-recorded confession implicating multiple suspects in the crime, but Evelyn is never found. On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we examine what is considered to be one of the most terrifying unsolved missing persons cases of all time.
