S5 | E48 Ending Routine Episiotomies with Dr. Michael Klein

We Go There Podcast

Dr. Michael Klein is best known for his landmark Randomized Control Trial of episiotomy that demonstrated that routine episiotomy caused the very problems it was supposed to prevent. This work is credited with leading to a dramatic drop in episiotomy and a parallel drop in severe rectal trauma across Canada and beyond. Semi retired, he continues to teach both clinical and research skills, and mentors family practice physicians for their research projects. He is also the author of “Dissident Doctor”, a riveting book chronicling his life and work.  Nikki, Lexi, and Dr. Klein chat about the eye opening experiences and knowledge Dr. Klein has gained through his years of dedication, work and research in birth. He shares the importance of self-advocacy, gives us a history lesson in obstetric violence and pleads with us to make change for future generations of birthing women.  What We’re Chatting About: What makes you so passionate about maternity care for women? Can you tell us why episiotomies should be avoided? How did episiotomies become routine practice? How important do you feel midwives & doulas are in maternity and birth care? How can women be better equipped to advocate for themselves to not have an episiotomy? What other ill-practices do you feel are out there? Why do episiotomy rates continue to be so high in many places around the world despite the evidence against them? It’s been said it takes on average 17 years for evidence-based care to make it into practice settings. Can you speak to this? Has that been your experience? How can we each do our part to change this culture and demand better practices? I’m in the middle of reading your memoir “Dissident Doctor” - My Life Catching Babies and Challenging the Medical Status Quo. You really are a beacon of light in the medical community! OneByOne Podcast

He's BACK! Lee is the first guest to ever come back on the Podcast! He's also a huge reason why ONEBYONE podcast exists at all. Back in 2014-2015, I started listening to Podcasts. Mostly JRE and a few fringe ones that I no longer enjoy, but then I found Uncle Joey and The Church of What's Happening Now! Lee was the Producer/Co-Host and I fell in love with the relationship he and Joey had on the show. Soon after, I started my own podcast and eventually, after 37 episodes, I gathered the guts to ask Lee to come on. It was a FaceTime Audio Call that I recorded into my old laptop through my cellphone at the time but it worked, I included a short clip from the episode at the end of this one so stick around to hear it! I really just wanted to thank him for helping me conjure the confidence to start podcasting when I had him on the first time. This time, I get to have him on to not only thank him (Virtually), but to also talk a little bit about Life and the job that only He and I have ever had in this world, producing a podcast for our friend and Legendary Comedian, Joey "CoCo" Diaz. Enjoy and I really hope you're following Lee EVERYWHERE: Https://www.Instagram.com/LeeSyatt Https://www.Twitter.com/LeeSyatt https://www.youtube.com/c/LeeSyatt This Episode of OneByOne with Michael Klein was Recorded on 1/10/22. How To Make Sensible Investments in a Senseless Economy: Six Proven Steps to Prevent Financial Disaster with Michael Klein

The Author Your Brand Show

In this episode, Michael Klein talks about the principles and keys to investing in the present economic state. Some of the key points mentioned were how smart and talented people overpowered real estate experts in terms of unique and successful investments. For Klein, deals are not found but created and that is what he highlighted in his recent book, "How to Make Sensible Investments in a Senseless Economy: Six Proven Steps to Prevent Financial Disaster." Key Takeaways/Main Points:   In this episode we discuss…. 1. “The basis of the book is to try to manage through a process that you can repeat time and time again, that causes you to have, good answers.” (4:02) 2. “If I'm doing business with smart people that are really talented at what they do, I've mitigated substantially all my risks, not all of it, but, but a big chunk of it.” (8:13) 3. “So if you don't think real estate takes talented people, I think you're mistaken.” (13:54) 4. “We're in this weird quasi world of capitalism meets socialism.” (19:26) 5. “Retail is bad if you're not a great operator” (25:24) 6. “And it's a great way of taking something that already exists, already has lots of plumbing, already has lots of electrical and converting it. So, I think that that's a pretty creative, reuse of something. It's not super unique, but it's done” (30:08) 7. “That has nothing to do with the real estate. That had everything to do with the people, the real estate was just sitting there” (33:56) 8. “Deals are not found. They're created” (34:03) 9. “The United States at the end of World War II had debt levels that were similar to where we are now. And we worked our way.” (36:55) 10. “So we were producing a product that would cause us to generate the money necessary to pay down debt” (38:22) 11. “How to Make Sensible Investments in a Senseless Economy. It's six proven steps to prevent financial disaster by Michael Klein and Stanley Kafka” (45:06) For more fascinating stories of the alternative investment world and to learn the 6 fundamental questions investors should ask to decrease risk in any economy and market read Klein's book now available on Amazon: How To Make Sensible Investments in a Senseless Economy.
