All about foot care and biomechanics with podiatrist, Tom May

Vibrant Lives Podcast

Our feet are integral to how we move and therefore to our overall health and wellbeing. Often, it is not until something goes wrong with our feet that we pay them the attention they deserve. In this episode, podiatrist Tom May, shares his knowledge and experience working in foot, ankle and lower limb health. Tom gives us an insight into what podiatrists actually do - it is more than providing orthotics - and often includes in depth analysis of biomechanics, one of Tom’a areas of special interest and expertise.Tom is passionate about footwear and the importance of selecting what is right for each individual. In particular, we talk about sports shoes and how selecting a shoe designed for a specific purpose e.g. tennis shoe, football boot is important. On the downside, this can be expensive but on the upside, it means we can never have too many shoes! One tip - comfort is king so my query about stilettos met with an emphatic “not good”.Finally, Tom imparts some tips about how to bet look after our feet and good foot hygiene.LINKS MENTIONED IN THE EPISODETom's practice, The Biomechanics lab: https://www.thebiomechanicslab.com.auThe Running Company: https://www.therunningcompany.com.au/adelaide/Sportitude: https://www.sportitude.com.au/contactBared Footwear: https://bared.com.auFRANKIiE4: https://frankie4.comHOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE PODCASTPlease tell your friends about the podcast and share it with them.Follow me on Instagram @vibrant_lives_podcastFollow my Facebook page: @vibrantlivespodcastIf you could rate and review the podcast on iTunes, that would be super helpful.Purchasing a book from my website is an easy way to support the podcast too. 105 – Tom May (The Menzingers)

My First Band Podcast

This week's guest is Tom May, who you might know as a guitarist and vocalist from The Menzingers. Since the band's start in Scranton, Pennsylvania, more than 15 years ago, the punk-rock powerhouse has released a flurry of well-received EPs and studio albums (including last year's self-recorded From Exile), shared the stage with some massive acts, earned a spot on the Epitaph roster and performed to passionate fans all around the world. Before May was a founding member of The Menzingers, he was honing his skills as a member of lesser-known Scranton bands like Decadence Decay and Bob and The Sagets. Recently, May spoke to My First Band host Tyler Maas about his early artistic efforts, formative shows from adolescence, the circumstances behind the start of The Menzingers and why he feels the band has remained intact for close to two decades. Over the course of the hour-plus discussion, May also talked about canceling The Menzingers' Australian tour last March to return to the U.S., the process of recording last year's deconstructed complement to 2019's Hello Exile, his Future Friday podcast, unforgettable opportunities music has given him and things he'd still like to accomplish before his playing days are through. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Music used in this episode comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and The Menzingers ("Strawberry Mansion").

Tom May: Undercooked Saracens players are holding England back

Brian Moore's Full Contact Rugby

We're heading into midway of the Six Nations and it's favourites France and unfancied Wales who remain the only unbeaten sides in the competition.Joining Brian to preview the upcoming round of fixtures is former England centre Tom May. They begin by analysing England's underwhelming campaign so far and Tom expresses his concern over England's Saracens contingent which he says are suffering due to a lack of club rugby.Ahead of the crunch game with Wales on Saturday, Brian says England must test young winger Louis Rees Zammit under the high ball whereas Tom says if they can manage to get the ball to their outside backs they will hand the Welsh their first defeat of the tournament.France have set the standard so far but head into their match with Scotland with a depleted squad due to Covid. Can the Scots replicate their form of round one where they beat England in Twickenham? As for Ireland they take on Italy in a game they should win comfortably. Head coach Andy Farrell has faced criticism after a poor start to the Six Nations but after watching them up close against France, Tom says there is more to come from them. After fresh reports the Lions could in fact be staged in Australia we speak with Telegraph's chief rugby correspondent Gavin Mairs about what is going on with the tour. And to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the world's first gay rugby club, we speak with Eamonn Ashton-Atkinson, the man behind the documentary 'Steelers' which celebrates the LGBT community within the gameCheck it out here: https://www.steelersthemovie.com/, and for 30 days' free access to the Telegraph: telegraph.co.uk/contactSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

#41 - Tom May (The Menzingers)

Behind the Vinyl

Tom May of The Menzingers joined the show for an epic conversation where we talked about a little bit of everything. We talked about previously being with Red Scare and how good of a person Toby is. We went into detail about The Menzingers getting flown out to California to meet with Epitaph and hearing about their big vision for the band. We obviously discussed the past year. Tom has become serious about cooking and what he puts into his body. Also, he has picked up a hobby in gardening where he grows oyster mushrooms and gourmet mushrooms. He also explained a funk he ran into with writing songs during the quarantine and snapping out of it by taking pressure off his writing.  Tom tells a story about being in Germany when they had their first coronavirus case and then The Menzingers playing their last show in Australia. The next day Australia began closing everything down and the band had to fly home. Tom talks about how everyone has a responsibility while on the road. Next, we got into what happened with the Robinhood app/GameStop and Tom gives us a little bit of financial knowledge. One of my favorite parts of the interview was when Tom talked about the band and how they are all best friends. The Menzingers still have the original lineup and they knew from the start that they were all in for the long haul. That led into Tom talking about growing up in Scranton, being in a band called Bob and the Sagets, and being friends with the members of Tigers Jaw.  I also got his thoughts on New Jersey, specifically the New Brunswick scene, since Tom played there often during his early days as a musician.  Tom loves podcasts, too. He has his own called "Future Friday." Tom plans on putting out 52 episodes this year! He says that his passion for podcasts began during long car rides. It originally began with listening to audiobooks and then led into podcasts. He also edits the two podcasts for The Menzingers, which you can find on their Patreon.  We closed out the show talking about the band. Tom discusses the writing process and picking who does vocals with Greg. Tom explains how "From Exile" was a solution to a problem when touring was cancelled and they needed something to do. They decided to do something different this time -- the album was in acoustic form. A lot of the songs, at least to me, talk about leaving the past behind, so I asked Tom about that. "Hello Exile" came out before the pandemic, but lines up with a lot of what has happened over the past year. Two quick fun facts from the episode: Tom's sister gave him an old PC during quarantine and he started playing a game from his teenage years. Also, there's a folk musician with the same name as him... look it up! #349 - Tom May

Going Off Track

The Menzingers have been guests just once before but come up so often that they certainly feel like GOT family. Vocalist/guitarist Tom May kept that vibe alive with a homey conversation about UFOs, Philly and New Years resolutions (which he loves).

The Northern Rugby Podcast - Episode 7 - Tom May

The Northern Rugby Podcast

Darren & Pete chat with Newcastle Falcons Legend Tom May.  Tom is the Falcons record appearance holder as well as their record try scorer, and also represented Northampton Saints and London Welsh in the Premiership, as well as a spell with Toulon in France. We chat through how Tom ended up at the Falcons and the role he played in helping them to win trophies in 2001 & 2004, playing as part of a young generation of talent including Jonny Wilkinson & Jamie Noon, and his disappointment at not amassing more England caps. We also hear how close Tom was to heading to rugby league following his spell with the Falcons, before he decided to head for sunnier climes in France. Following a move to Toulon, Tom talks to us about life in France, how demanding French fans can be, and the disappointment of losing the 2010 Challenge Cup final from a winning position against Cardiff. He also talks to us about his move back to England with Saints, Dylan Hartley’s red card in the 2013 Premiership final, and a controversial return to Kingston Park as a Saints player. We also talk about Tom's last hurrah with London Welsh as he captained them back to the Premiership against the odds. We of course finish with the customary Ultimate XV, which is a belter as you'd expect. Good chat with a top bloke, come have a listen.
