#38 - Traver Boehm (Founder Man UNcivilized)

The Unearthed Man Podcast

I first came across Traver after listening to him being interviewed on the Sacred Sons Podcast. I was inspired by Traver as here was a man talking about being uncivilised which was right up my alley. I subsequently purchased his book “Man UNcivilized” and now use that as one of my go to reference books. It is so relevant in today’s society and is written with a beautiful level of grunge and unashamed manliness.Traver knows men. How they think, what’s behind their behaviour, and most importantly — their unique challenges in the modern landscape. He is the founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement, the fastest growing men’s movement in the world. Traver is the author of Today I Rise, and Man UNcivilized as well as a two time TEDx speaker, men’s coach and podcaster.Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional body guarding and Mixed Martial Arts to a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, Traver counsels men, women, and couples on how to better understand men’s mental health and relationship difficulties.Although he’s not quite sure how to feel about the title, he has been dubbed, “The Man Whisperer” as he has the unique ability to speak to men in a way they can hear and understand. In 2016 after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical year long social experiment to answer the questions, “Who am I and who am I as a man?” Highlights of that year included:Volunteering with the dying as a hospice workerMeditating for 28 days straight in complete isolation and pitch-black darkness in a Guatemalan hutLiving in the frigid Utah wilderness for a month with only a knife, a water bottle, and a blanketWith a passion for people and a unique lens through which to view the human experience, he is a highly sought after teacher in the fields of consciousness, intimacy, and personal development. When not teaching workshops or radically shifting the way men experience their masculinity, he can be found obsessing over a single word in front of his laptop, chasing surf around the globe, and being awful at yoga.In this week's episode we revisited the events that kicked off his inner search. We also discussed how he realised he was an UNcivilized man and how many people are currently living indoctrinated, civilised lives. His mission is to change all that. In addition, we explored the lack of male leadership across the globe given the current “crisis” and how we need more men to stand up in their power to lead us out of the fear mongering that is taking place. It was an honour to talk with a man that I have taken inspiration from over the past 2 years and the awesome part is that he is such a nice, down to earth guy.I trust you will enjoy this episode,Much love and peace,The Unearthed Man

278: An Uncivilized Man with Traver Boehm

The Adult Chair

“Be a man.” It’s a loaded phrase that our culture uses to tell men to be tough, not show their feelings and just keep pressing on. But is this true masculinity? Is there a better way to be a man? My guest today, Traver Boehm, is on a mission to redefine masculinity, bringing together what he calls “primal savagery” and a connection to the heart that is spiritual, emotional and whole. He believes this is what true masculinity looks like, before culture told men who to be, and he spends his life teaching men how to unapologetically become their most authentic self. And as a woman, let me tell you: this is the kind of masculine energy that the world is looking for! In this conversation, Traver tells his story of being one of the guys who looked like he “had it all” until his life unraveled and he forced himself to look inward at the ways he was numbing his pain. From there, he developed his “uncivilized man” ethos that calls men back to their authentic selves and helps them succeed in all areas of life – from relationships to work to mental health – from a heart-centered place. Listen to discover: What true, healthy masculinity looks like How and why the culture has conditioned men not to feel Why it’s so important – and manly – for men to do their work and heal themselves What to do when your partner doesn’t want to engage emotionally and spiritually How to get the things you want in life without killing your soul in the process Whether you’re a man looking to be the healthiest version of yourself or a woman looking for resources for the men in her life, I know you will be inspired by Traver’s beautiful example of what masculinity was designed to be and how healthy men can change the world. “Primal savagery and a deep connection to your heart: that to me is ‘uncivilized’” - Traver Boehm “The part that’s been missing has been going into the heart.” - Michelle Chalfant “Culturally, we have asked men to not feel.” - Traver Boehm “The old paradigm said, ‘Men, you are responsible for everything external and nothing internal.’” - Traver Boehm “We’ve numbed ourselves to the point of getting to ignore what is true, which is we are hurting.” - Traver Boehm “We’ve got to connect with ourselves – and we do that through feeling our emotions – before we can ever connect with anyone else.” - Michelle Chalfant LINKS & RESOURCES Traver Boehm Website https://www.manuncivilized.com/ “Man UNcivilized” Book https://www.manuncivilized.com/thebook Traver Boehm Instagram https://www.instagram.com/traverboehm/ The Adult Chair® Membership September Theme: “I’m a self-care badass!” https://theadultchair.com/membership/ P&G Hair Food https://hairfood.com/ Or find at Amazon, Target or Walmart MORE ADULT CHAIR The Adult Chair® Website https://theadultchair.com The Adult Chair® Membership https://theadultchair.com/membership/ The Adult Chair® Workshop https://theadultchair.com/events/ The Adult Chair® Coaching Certification https://theadultchair.com/certification TAC Circles® https://theadultchair.com/taccircles/ STAY CONNECTED Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelle.chalfant Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichelleChalfantFanPage/ The Adult Chair® Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theadultchair/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Michellechalfant

Reclaiming the UNcivilized Man with Traver Boehm

Mind Body Musings

Episode 338: Traver Boehm – https://www.manuncivilized.com – knows men. How they think, what’s behind their behavior, and most importantly — their unique challenges in the modern landscape. Traver is the founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement, the fastest growing men’s movement in the world. He is the author of Today I Rise, and Man UNcivilized as well as a two time TEDx speaker, men’s coach and podcaster.Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional body-guarding and Mixed Martial Arts to a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, Traver counsels men, women, and couples on how to better understand men’s mental health and relationship difficulties. In the last episode, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Traver Boehm, and for this one, we have changed spots. In this episode, Traver is here to talk to us about The UNcivilized Man Reclaim. You will hear and learn about primitivity, relationships, safety, and much more!Don't miss this episode and start to become the UNcivilized man this world needs.CREATIVITY IN LOVE: Discover more at https://maddy-moon.lpages.co/creativity-in-love/ SISU SOCIETY: Join here: https://maddymoon.com/sisu-societyFEMININE SPIRIT SCHOOL: Join here: https://maddymoon.com/feminine-spirit Show notes:Opinions like "I will rather be a sacred slut than an empire-building girl boss" can make women angry, thinking that we are against each other when it is not.As women, we are used to fighting for acceptance, which is exhausting. But -- we have nothing to prove to them. The inspiration behind The Uncivilized Man Movement is the primitive man dealing with unexpressed emotions and pain. One of Traver's passions is to help men connect their emotions and feelings to something bigger than themselves so that they can be a better person.Traver wants to thank every woman who's bought his book and spread his message. With power comes great responsibility, and being in a man's body does bring great power. In other words, don't apologize for being born as a man. Do something good with it.The Uncivilized Man Movement's mantra is to let others feel safe as you walk among them.Biology exists, and it needs to be recognized. For that reason, no matter how many books we read and how much money we make, our biology has to be tended to.What can we do for men? Encourage, celebrate and support them. All men have a green light and a red light inside of them.A couple fighting to be in the alpha role will cause harm to the relationship. As a result, it is going to be a power struggle and a pissing contest. For Traver, the depth of the word "safety" is something he had to learn by himself. Now, he helps men to comprise and create it.Traver Boehm is perplexed by the state of our culture. Right now, he feels people are digging their heels against the pendulum — a kind of middle ground unto itself."The women are the message spreaders of the world."Traver feels that as the dominant in the room, men are responsible for the women. That is to say, men must take care of them. Choosing Relentless Courage, Facing Death & Challenging Societal Norms with Traver Boehm of Man UNcivilized, Part 2

Room to Grow Podcast with Emily Gough

Today's guest is so special and rapidly becoming one of my favourite humans. We're talking to Traver Boehm again today, originally featured for an epic conversation back on episode 266 - a personal favourite and one of the most powerful episodes on the entire Room To Grow™ Podcast. Never have I received an outpouring of so much incredible feedback about a guest episode, and ever since we mentioned back on episode 266 that we would record a second one, I've had DMs and text messages demanding to know when the new one was being released. As you can tell by the title, this is another casual chat about some super light topics, ha! This conversation will leave you better than before you started listening, if you allow it. It will challenge you to think differently, to see the world through a different lens, and to question the way you show up. It may or may not also be the first time a guest and I have BOTH cried on an episode, so you know it must be a good one.  Traver Boehm is an author of two books, 2 time TEDx Speaker, men’s coach and founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement, which is radically redefining the way men around the globe experience their masculinity by uniquely blending both primal elements of manhood with massive doses of consciousness. Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional bodyguarding and Mixed Martial Arts to Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, Traver also teaches people to skillfully use the inevitable pain of their lives as fuel for growth and positive change. In 2016 after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical social experiment and spent the next 12 months as if it were his last year to live, aptly naming it “The Year to Live Project.” A few topics we cover today: How to have conversations with people that can be highly triggering as you step onto your own path, and embark on your own journey that may likely go against the grain for many others around you  The unique challenges that can come with those conversations, including the likelihood of losing a lot of relationships too Why you have to keep showing up with courage every single day if you're going to get to where you're going, whatever that might look like for you AND to hang on to the little moments that will continue to propel you forward even when everything else might feel dark. And so much more…. If you're a human, this is not an episode to be missed. Traver has a powerful mission around what it means to be a man, and this is a topic that affects all of us, no matter how you identify. I urge you to check out Traver's work. His fantastic podcast, both of his books, men's group and the various exciting projects he's always juggling at any given time are transformative, and more people need to know about him. Buckle up, tune in, and then go connect with Traver. Today I Rise and the Man UNcivilized Movement with Traver Boehm

The Pursuit of Learning

Masculinity is a concept that has gone through huge transformations over a long time, and the way we perceive masculinity influences our lives in many aspects. Our guest today is a pioneer in inspiring men around the world to shift their experience of masculinity by combining the Primal Masculine with the Divine Masculine. Traver Boehm, the author of “Today I Rise” and “Man UNcivilized,” two-time TEDx speaker and licensed acupuncturist, joins us today to talk about all things masculinity. Throughout the episode, we talk about Traver’s journey through heartache, loss, and grief, managing emotions, Traver’s man Uncivilized movement, and much more.Traver dives into the conversation with a retelling of how his life experiences of heartache and grief shaped him and how his learning from those experiences became the inspiration for his first book  and, ultimately the Man UNcivilized movement. Traver’s Man UNcivilized movement, along with his book, focuses on helping men understand manhood in its fullness, including being unapologetic about it.  We tackle what inspired Traver to start the movement and how it teaches men to live their own life without being wrapped in what society demands. Sometimes, men fall into the trap of looking outside to make them feel okay with the way they exist in the world. This behavior causes men to disregard their own needs and to care for others ahead of themselves. Robert Glover, a celebrated psychotherapist, coined the term “nice guy syndrome” for this behavior. We dive into the concept of the nice guy, how men are trapped in this behavior, and how to get out of it, including Traver’s course Kill the Nice Guy. Wrapping up the episode, we talk about ways of dealing with grief and anger and how it is unfortunately being channeled by many men today into repressed rage. Repressed rage that is resulting in abhorrent behavior, such as rape, violence and, ultimately, mass shootings. We reiterate that each man should embody the motto Let others be safe for I walk among them.
