Ep 44, Powering Exchange - 0x Roadmap Update, with Founders Will Warren and Amir Bandeali

Wyre Talks

The ZRX token was created to facilitate governance for 0x as a public piece of infrastructure. It gave the community voting rights and was baked into the settlement layer as a way to collect fees. The idea was to get the token into the hands of the platform’s users. But soon after launch, the team realized their hypothesis was wrong, and they have spent the last 18 months developing a new token economics model that rewards liquidity providers. Will Warren and Amir Bandeali are the cofounders of 0x, an open protocol that enables the peer-to-peer exchange of assets on the Ethereum blockchain. Today, Will and Amir join us to share the 0x origin story, explaining how their own need for DEX infrastructure informed the creation of the protocol. They walk us through the team’s 2019 roadmap, offering insight around why liquidity is their #1 objective. Will and Amir discuss their work in the realm of ZIEPs, the team’s collaboration with StarkWare, and the introduction of 0x Mesh—as an alternative to the standard relayer API. They also weigh in on the differences among the open order book, matching and coordinator relayer models, addressing the pros and cons of each. Listen in to understand the proposed changes to the 0x token economics model and learn how it scales with gas prices to reward liquidity providers! DEXes, Liquidity, and On-Chain Arbitrage with Amir Bandeali of 0x and Ivan Bogatyy of Metastable

Village Global's Venture Stories

Erik is joined on this episode by Amir Bandeali (@abandeali1), co-founder and CTO of 0x, and Ivan Bogatyy, general partner at Metastable Capital. Erik and Ivan ask Amir about the background behind 0x and its creation. Amir says that 0x is a protocol, rather than an exchange. He also breaks down how a decentralized exchange is different from a centralized one. Amir predicts that "in the long run the types of assets that are going to be tokenized are mostly non-financial assets."Amir says that market makers want to port the paradigm of a centralized exchange over to decentralized exchanges, and talks about what kinds of ideas from a centralized exchange could be useful in a decentralized exchange. They talk about the problem of front-running and how to prevent it. Amir breaks down some of the most common misconceptions about decentralized exchanges and talks about some of his requests for products in the space. They also cover automatic market makers and derivative protocols. Thanks for listening — if you like what you hear, please review us on your favorite podcast platform. Amir Bandeali & Will Warren: 0x Protocol and the Decentralized Exchange Frontier

Epicenter - Learn about Crypto, Blockchain, Ethereum, Bitcoin and Distributed Technologies

Decentralized exchanges have been a holy grail in the cryptocurrency space, since at least the MtGox hack. They promise to derisk the act of exchanging cryptocurrency by leaving custody of funds in the hands of the users. And they should be resistant to regulatory pressure, creating a permissionless way to trade cryptocurrencies. Among decentralized exchange projects, 0x has gained by far the most traction in the short time since launching. Co-founders Will and Amir joined us to discuss the 0x protocol, the emerging 0x economy and the vibrant community they’ve built. Topics covered in this episode: How Will and Amir started 0x The definition of a decentralized exchange and why decentralized custody is key The 0x architecture Why 0x built a protocol and not just a decentralized exchange The role and business model of relayers The 0x token and its economy The 0x governance process Episode links: 0x: The Protocol for Trading Tokens 0x Whitepaper Front-running, Griefing and the Perils of Virtual Settlement (Part 1) Front-running, Griefing and the Perils of Virtual Settlement (Part 2) This episode is hosted by Brian Fabian Crain and Meher Roy.
