Episode 120: John Peterson & Gordy Young

OK, this is a special episode.
I remember the first time I heard John Peterson on the radio. He was doing the morning show on WIBA-FM and this was in the early 80s...this was before Sly took over.
Peterson's show caught my ear, because he was doing phone calls and had a very dry wit. He'd push peoples' buttons...and they would push back. He would bring up controversial subjects and go back to the phones in between classic rock cuts.
When I finally met him in 1986 he was taking the opening day tour of Fox 47. Christa Lane introduced us, and we hit it off immediately. Eventually, because I was in charge of promotion and marketing, I hired John to do some voice work for the station and we started working even more together. We created Nite Owl Movies, a late night movie show where we would cut in to the film to present commercials and goof around a bit. Fun stuff.
We would go on to work together as a radio duo for 92MAD-FM and later, Triple M.
We pushed the boundaries of radio and created some memorable moments as well as a little controversy from time to time.
Since I moved back to Wisconsin 5 years ago, we've gotten together a handful of times to have coffee and talk about the old days. I called him up the other day to get him on the podcast. That's what you'll hear...just like old times.
Mr. Peterson?

My guests this week are JOHN PETERSON and CHRIS SANDERS. John is a friend from all the way back in high school, and Chris has been a great friend and business / creative collaborator in LA for over 15 years. They are on two opposite sides of the country and dealing with the pandemic response in their own ways, and each talk adds an interesting perspective to the mix. Chris is also this week’s long-form interview guest on “If I Knew You Better”, linked below.    CHRIS SANDERS on “If I Knew You Better” - Permalink: http://ifiknewyoubetter.libsyn.com/chris-sanders-austin-hollywood-and-masonry

Ep. 15 - Brawl Primer and Staying Sane with John Peterson

This week we're joined by personal friend John Peterson to help us get into the Brawl format. Brawl is free for the next month, so let's dive in and see what we can learn. John takes us through the basics of the format, tells us which interaction and removal you should be running, the threats to watch out for, and the commanders you can expect to run into on the ladder. In addition, we talk about manabases and the speed of the format. Try it out – I've been playing it a lot recently, and the format is GAS.

ALSO, please tune in this week on Thursday, March 26 at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern for my livestream on Twitch. I'll be facing off against friend of the show Absurd Heroine in the new Deathmatch format, where it's a race to be the first person to die! Come check it out – it should be a good time. Tune in here.
