Dr. Sarah Sarkis - Psychological Flexibility in Parenting and Personal Development

The Gabby Reece Show

My guest today is Dr. Sarah Sarkis. She is a modern day psychologist聽that has a combination of classic therapy, neurobiology and functional medicine. Sarah discusses that what keeps showing up for individuals displaying good mental health is a high tolerance for ambiguity, and what she calls high psychological flexibility. Two things that I often have to sit on my hands to achieve. Our conversation was a lot of fun for me. Even confessing my many blunders as a partner and parent. Did I say many blunders?聽Isn't that the beauty of life.聽Let's take that time to be still that Dr Sarkis invites us all to practice, even if it's just 30 seconds a day to start out to take a long look at who we are and what we are truly feeling. The reminder that we are enough and when we don't feel that way that it shows up as so many different traits.聽Life is messy and I'm always excited to talk to people who confirm this and remind us all that the messy, the sad, the challenging, even the not knowing, is the stuff.聽The true art of life.聽Oh, and right up my alley she even talks about a practice of sleep, hydration, nutrition, movement, and recovery as part of that approach.聽YES!! 022. Parenting in the Age of Social Media with Dr. Sarah Sarkis

Elevating Motherhood

Parenting in the age of social media feels tricky, doesn鈥檛 it? I鈥檝e found that a lot of parents feel insecure when it comes to rules about social media and how to approach it. We need to talk about it more and find ways to feel confident in our parenting in general, but especially when it comes to phones and social media. That鈥檚 why I鈥檝e invited Dr. Sarah Sarkis on to the show today to start that conversation and help us navigate these tricky waters. Dr. Sarah Sarkis is a psychologist, writer, and performance consultant with a private practice in Honolulu, Hawaii (though it won鈥檛 take you long to discover she鈥檚 a Boston girl at heart). Her integrated approach is big on science and low on BS, empowering her clients to achieve long term change and growth through an eclectic blend of psychology, neurobiology, and functional medicine. She created her blog, The Padded Room, as a virtual safe space to help people manage the jarring realities of life. There, you鈥檒l find a soft landing for life鈥檚 harshest truths. We鈥檒l link to that in the show notes. You can also follow her monthly essay series Shrink Rap via her work with The Flow Research Collective. I came to this podcast with fear, guilt, & sensationalism and left with hope, confidence, and direction thanks to Dr. Sarah鈥檚 insights. We talk about all things Social Media: 路 Who鈥檚 on social media 路 What kids are being exposed to 路 How it affects them 路 Risks & benefits 路 Parenting 路 Virtual citizenship 路 What behaviors we model for our kids 路 And how we can approach all of it as parents who want what鈥檚 best for our children 路 And hope! This isn鈥檛 a doom and gloom episode! Tune in and get more comfortable and confident with how you approach social media in your parenting.
