[S2, E11] 42: Justin Baldoni on toxic masculinity + Sage Skyler on infinite transitions

advice with avocato
Episode artwork
Read more

Hello, potatoes! A hot topic at the moment is about gender inequality and how the hypermascuinity/hyperfemininity plays into the societal standards of what a man or woman should be like. The TedxTalk by Justin Baldoni is fantastic at explaining the toxic masculinity that is sometimes embedded, and I think everyone should be aware of those underlying issues. I also wanted to mention how non-binary genders come into play, and Sage Skyler does an awesome job explaining this idea of transitioning for non-binary peeps. I specifically use my own journey as an example: I used to think that for me to be truly an enby, I had to be super masculine to counteract that fact that I was AFAB. I realized that femininity is simply a way I like to express myself but does not make me any less of an enby that I truly am. I encourage you to think about this discussion (and feel free to email me your thoughts at advicewithavocato@gmail.com!)
