107 - David Connolly | Preparation = Mindfulness

The Heroic Minds Podcast

Right after graduating from his musical theatre and performance degree from Sheridan college, David became the only amputee to perform on Broadway. For the screen, David has directed and choreographed several series for CBC as well as projects for CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS. David has collaborated with artists including Katy Perry, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker, kd lang, Patti LaBelle, Sarah Brightman and many others. Currently, David Connolly, is the Associate Artistic Director at Drayton Entertainment, one of Canada’s most successful not-for-profit, professional theatre companies. This incredibly exciting and successful career began with the amputation of both of his feet. We will get to that in the episode... David has directed concerts and shows for large organizations across North America such as, The United Nations. What began with Shriner’s hospital turning a broom closet into a nursery because his mom would not take “no” for an answer that they could not care for him, turned into a journey of never taking “no” for an answer. A journey of powerful story telling through the arts that continues to change people’s lives. In this episode we talk about David going to auditions, which he nailed, and never telling anyone about his physical differences. We talk about the power of being present and the simple ‘two step’ approach in how to get there. We talk about how a leader’s job is to limit the fear and discomfort in their group. And of course, lots more in between. https://www.davidwconnolly.com/ Send me an email: info@heroicminds.live

David Connolly - Choose Glitter, Don't Be Bitter

Tits and Teeth Podcast

Today on the pod we have a forward thinking chat with the super compassionate, always passionate, David Connolly, who reminds us it’s always better to glitter than be bitter! David Connolly is the Associate Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment, where he has helmed over thirty productions! David leads Drayton's Youth Training Program and is also an adjunct professor to many performing arts colleges across Canada. Having also been the only below knee double amputee performer to ever perform on Broadway, he is also a huge advocate for very-abled-actors within the community. In our discussion with David we talk about his new initiative that began in response to social distancing, Matinee to Z. We also have an important discussion about people with disabilities, that encourages us to broaden our thinking beyond any labels, and David gets us excited about our 'new normal' going forward.David’s career has been vast and diverse. He was a cast member in the Broadway revival of Shenandoah, and from there become a company member of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. David then moved to LA  and spent 7 years working as an Associate Producer and Creative Director at Anita Mann Productions. He brought that knowledge back to Canada to choreograph, cast, and co-direct the CBC smash hit children’s series, The Doodlebops. Some of David’s other director/choreographer credits include; Newsies, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Hairspray, Singin’ In The Rain, Mamma Mia! 22: The Declan Rice Edition - Featuring David Connolly & Nigel Winterburn

We Are West Ham Podcast

Declan Rice. Future England captain.  Yeah, that's right. Dec's chosen England, and he announced it just in time for us to wax lyrical about it on this week's show. James Jones, Will Pugh and Jake Watson spent most of the show discussing Rice's long-awaited, yet unsurprising, decision to pick England over the Republic of Ireland and it certainly caused a bit of a stir.  Former West Ham striker David Connolly, who was born in England but chose to play for the Republic of Ireland during his playing days, was on the phones to give his views on the decision (it's fair to say he's not happy about it), while ex-Hammers defender Nigel Winterburn also joined the lads to have his say. Also on this week's show, a few fans called in to discuss Declan Rice and the boys had their say on warm weather training camps as Manuel Pellegrini takes the lads to Malaga for a jolly up. Enjoy - and don't forget to subscribe on all your favourite podcast platforms. Irons.
