I haven’t spoken much about my Mum’s journey with a brain tumour for the past 18 years to date. She’s so strong and doing really well . This is my Mum’s specialist, it is my honour to bring this podcast to you. 309: America’s National Debt: What it Means for Your Retirement with Former U.S. Comptroller General, David Walker

Retire With Purpose - The Retirement Podcast

Today, I’m talking to David Walker. David served as Comptroller General of the United States under both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Since leaving government in 2008, he has been focused on spreading awareness and talking about the national debt. He was the subject of the film I.O.U.S.A., named by Roger Ebert as one of the best documentaries of 2008, and is the author of a number of books, including Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility. I saw David speak back in 2010, and I’ve always been a huge admirer of his work. He’s a huge believer in the importance of reeling in our debt. In his new book, America in 2040: Still a Superpower? A Pathway to Success, he compares the United States to the Roman Empire in decline and the steps that we can take to avoid that outcome.  In today’s conversation, David and I dive deep into the matter of the national debt. You’ll learn not just why David thinks debt matters, but how it impacts us as individuals–and what we can do about it. You’ll learn about how our national debt, high taxes, and inflation are all inextricably linked, the policies that need to change, and how to factor the challenges that might come into your retirement plan. Reading David Walker’s Appeal: The Pen as the Sword

HUB History - Our Favorite Stories from Boston History

This week, we’re trying something a little bit different. This fall and winter, the Old North Church historic site has been hosting a series of conversations about radical Black abolitionist David Walker, and his book An Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World. As part of their Digital Speaker Series, education director Catherine Matthews moderated a discussion between artist, educator, and activist L’Merchie Frazier and playwright Peter Snoad on December 15. This edition focused on the text of the Appeal as a piece of rhetoric that pointed out the brutality and hypocrisy of slavery and urged the enslaved to rebel by any means necessary. Thanks to our friends at Old North for allowing us to share this panel with you.Full show notes: http://HUBhistory.com/240/Support us: http://patreon.com/HUBhistory/The Pen as the Sword Read the excerpts from Walker’s Appeal that are discussed in this week’s episode. 219: For Firestone Walker Cofounder David Walker, Innovation and Collaboration Are in Craft Beer’s DNA

Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine Podcast

For this final episode of 2021, David Walker of Firestone Walker (Paso Robles, California) joins the podcast to talk about the brewery’s remarkable evolution—from the earliest days of making pale ale to getting lucky with 805 (and not screwing it up), and accelerating the innovation process in recent years with hop-forward series such as Luponic Distortion and Mind Haze. Walker shares his thoughts on everything from capital investment to risk management, fostering a culture of creativity and quality, and more. As the brewery continues to grow toward their goal of a million barrels by the end of this decade, they continue to follow concurrent paths that might seem contradictory on the surface, yet they reflect the love, respect, and connection with the idea of craft beer and those fellow brewers who make it. From their small-scale club delivering beers to diehard customers in California to their annual Invitational festival, they continue to sweat the small stuff. Still, scale brings the ability to make bold, values-driven decisions like investing in environmental sustainability, and Walker talks about their moves to reduce water consumption and replace grid power with solar. “American craft brewers brought flavor and innovation and disruption to a monolithic beer industry worldwide, and they changed the world of beer, and they changed the consumer,” Walker says. *This episode is brought to you by: * G&D Chillers (https://gdchillers.com): For nearly 30 years, G&D Chillers has set the mark for quality equipment you can rely on.
