Ep 167 – The Next Mormons with Jana Riess and Benjamin Knoll

Naked Mormonism Podcast

On this episode, we take a break from our historical timeline to bring you a very exciting interview with Jana Riess and Benjamin Knoll. Jana Riess is the author of the book “The Next Mormons” and Benjamin Knoll is the data scientist who helped create the survey an interpret the data which underlies the book. We discuss a chapter-by-chapter Q&A about the book and explore ways to interpret the data, as well as how it was interpreted for publication in the book itself. On a personal note, this book comes very highly recommended and if you’ve heard anything about the book I can almost guarantee it’s been a good review because The Next Mormons is one of the most important books of the 2010s. It’s my sincere hope that after listening to this interview you get a copy for yourself. Enjoy! 37 - She Preached the Word: Interview with Benjamin Knoll and Cammie Jo Bolin

Potstirrer Podcast

Political science researchers Benjamin Knoll and Cammie Jo Bolin join Jaye in this episode to share with listeners their knowledge and research on women clergy, and talk about their new book, She Preached the Word. The researchers discuss some of the book's themes, including the barriers to ordination of women, the acceptance of women clergy in congregations, and the effects they have on their congregations. They also discuss their research methodology, including the new, original data collected and analyzed to arrive at their findings. How do women clergy affect the self-esteem and outlook of women and girls in their congregations, and how might women in religious leadership affect the prospects of women leadership in other areas of public life? 254: When She Leads: Women's Ordination in the USA: Benjamin Knoll & Cammie-Jo Bolin

A Thoughtful Faith - Mormon / LDS

Benjamin Knoll and Cami-Jo Bollin discuss their new book, 'She Preached the Word:  Women's Ordination in Modern America.' Their study uses novel survey data that reveals a surprising relationship between political orientation and an acceptance of women's ordination.   This, of course,  raises one of America's most pressing questions: How strongly are America's religious sensibilities shaped by their much polarized US political scene?
