Socially Broken W/ Mike Drucker

Mike Drucker, head writer for Full Frontal W/ Samantha Bee, joins Rebecca to discuss the first pop culture phenomenon, Young Werther, a romantic tragedy written in 18th century Europe. Killing yourself because of romance being seen as very romantic, being a huge try hard, trying to "act deep" your way into a relationship, and when an entire culture forms around a book. Preachers gave sermons against this book! Also, idiot confidence, and Mike is doing fine in quarantine.

Mike Drucker has never seen Goodfellas

Mike Drucker has never seen Goodfellas, but he rewrote it, and we read his script! Mike is a writer for Full Frontal with Sam Bee, and has written for the Tonight Show, Bill Nye, and more. He gives us his take on what he probably thinks Goodfellas is, and is closer than anyone should be. Kyle and Mike are joined by Mike Carrozza, and they also play some Build the Perfect Movie and Before and Afters. We’re recording remotely, apologies for any audio hiccups. Thank you all so much for listening, I appreciate you!

Weird Al vs. Steely Dan (feat. Mike Drucker)

It’s [adjective + male name] versus [adjective + male name] on this episode of MinnTrax! Mike Drucker (Nintendo, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Saturday Night Live, Bill Nye Saves the World) brings the first cassette he ever bought, Weird Al Yankovic’s “Bad Hair Day,” to Matt’s door. Matt returns the favor with Steely Dan’s “The Royal Scam,” which Matt calls “the most ‘Steely Dan’ Steely Dan record.” Both artists are hugely influential in their fields, and their skills go far beyond schtick – but what do our host and guest think of their assignments? Then we address some great questions from our community on songs that used to annoy us that we now love, if “Amish Paradise” is inappropriate, and whether or not Weird Al should be in the hall of fame. Stick around for our community song pick, which turned Mike into an instant fan!

To jump to a particular discussion, check out the timestamps below…

2:40 - Weird Al’s “Bad Hair Day”

Kootie Pie Rocks! w/ Mike Drucker

Play

Comedian and writer MIKE DRUCKER (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, The Tonight Show, a billion other things) joins us for a very special episode where we break all the rules we made up and reach ahead to an episode of the Super Mario Bros 3 cartoon. And if that’s a problem, you need to Blame It On the Rain because this episode rules. King Koopa kidnaps legendary German R&B group Milli Vanilli right out of their big Shea Stadium gig to try and get his niece to stop complaining. One problem though! Koopa kidnapped Princess Toadstool’s all time favorite band and there’s NO WAY Mario and company will let this stand. This cartoon is ridiculous and surely would’ve been Milli Vanilli’s undoing if they hadn’t been outed as frauds mere weeks before this episode’s original air date.
