013 Eve Kalinik: Nourishing the Whole Self

Self Centred with Roann

I’m delighted to be talking to Eve Kalinik today, author of Happy Gut, Happy Mind, and champion of promoting nutritional wellbeing as a way of supporting your mental wellbeing. She says: “If we truly want to have an authentic life-long attitude towards nourishing ourselves - which by the way food is only one part - then quick fixes, fads, detoxes and diets are not going to cut the proverbial mustard.” As for Eve herself, she had a successful career in fashion PR, which she says was anything but “healthy” - long hours, fast food, skipping meals, being sucked into weird diets. Which is something we can all relate to. Subsequent burnout and recurrent kidney infections led her to really take stock and stop, to look at her life, look at what she was putting into her body and to make that leap to connect the way she lived and ate and the way she was feeling. So we talk about her journey, we also talk about the microbiome and the gut, because, as she lays out in her book, the gut is intrinsically linked to the state of our mental health and the new science around our gut is fascinating. She also talks about this idea that we’ve got a lot of time back. Because of COVID and lockdowns, we aren’t commuting for so long, and she says we need to use this time to start nourishing ourselves by slowing down the way we work, the way we think, the way we eat.  Maybe even going back to former traditions where we honour our food and take our time with it, rather than being obsessed with working and productivity. “What has transpired in the last six months," she says. "Is that reconnection - fundamentally reconnecting with ourselves.” She also talks about how you can nutritionally take small bold actions now, that can have a lifetime of effect. I’ll think you’ll get a lot from this, there’s some really practical stuff that you can take away, and some fascinating ideas for starting to nourish your whole self more.

#3- Eve Kalinik: Nutritional Therapy, Mindful Eating, Hormones, Gut Health, Intermittent Fasting, and Why Planning Is Important For The Girl On The Go

The Dream Bigger Podcast

On this episode, I sit down with one of London’s top nutrition therapists, Eve Kalinik. This interview focuses on mindful eating, gut health, finding the right probiotics, and why planning is important for the girl on the go. Eve is the author of the book, Be Good To Your Gut, and focuses on educating her clients on mindful eating, nutrition and a sustainable diet. Her journey is particularly interesting because she used to be the girl on the go with no time to focus on nutrition. With a job at Karla Otto, one of the world's leading fashion PR agencies, stress and poor eating habits lead to her wrecking her gut, which is what spawned her interest in nutrition. It’s because of her past that Eve’s methodology is to make nutrition accessible to the busy girl who has a hundred things on her plate. Eve Kalinik | Top tips for managing your gut health.

The Emma Guns Show

Eve Kalinik (@evekalinik/@evekalinik) is a nutritional therapist and innovative food thinker. In previous podcasts I've talked to guests about the gut being the 'second brain', but with Eve there's an argument for saying it's the first brain. Eve's approach isn't about fads or unsustainable plans - in fact she gives them all short shrift, as you'll hear - but rather a way of finding a balanced approach to what you eat to support health, wellbeing and positive changes in the body.  Did you know your stomach acid should be like battery acid? In this conversation Eve shares some facts we all need to know about our bodies, debunks myths, talks about the emotional connection we have with our food, and why some of our 'bad habits' might not be 'bad habits' at all, and actually the result of cravings caused by subtle, an easily fixable, imbalances in the gut. If you've ever wondered what probiotics and prebiotics are, and what they can do for your gut health, Eve breaks in down in one very nifty action movie analogy.  I recorded this podcast and wondered why I'd never seen a nutritional therapist before, if you feel the same you can get in touch with Eve via her website: EVE KALINIK.
