Podcast episode 066: Nurturing ourselves through the mental health crisis with Jenny Brown

Centre for Christian Living podcast

Perhaps you’ve noticed that awareness about issues surrounding mental health has risen sharply in recent years. More and more people have been coming forward, sharing their own experiences of their struggles with depression and anxiety. New articles and books about this topic seem to come out every month. In Australia, RU OK? day in September has become a national annual fixture. And of course, the COVID-19 pandemic and various lockdowns have led to a sharp decline in mental health around the world. But despite growing awareness, increased activism, and an abundance of information and think pieces, the mental health crisis doesn’t seem to be getting any better. If anything, it seems to be getting worse. What’s going on here? If the current ways of tackling the problem aren’t working, how might we go about addressing it? Furthermore, how are we as Christians to think about mental health issues? And what role can we play as a community to help those who struggle? For a full transcript and show notes, visit https://ccl.moore.edu.au/resources/podcast-episode-066/

Episode 77: Making Your Marriage Gospel-Centered with Ryan and Jenny Brown

The Renew You Podcast

In today’s interview, I had the privilege of speaking with Ryan and Jenny Brown, authors of “The Marriage Experience” -- which is a biblical approach to creating a strong, gospel-centered marriage that was birthed from ongoing prayer, biblical study, and research along with her years mentoring newly engaged and married couples. Ryan who is a pastor at Graceland Church in New Albany, Indiana, and Jenny who is the director of the marriage experience ministry have a love for marriage and a longing to give married couples a space to connect on a deeper level in their relationship. The Marriage Experience Project is ultimately a mission to help couples illuminate Jesus Christ in the world in keeping with Ephesians 5:32 that refers to Christ and his bride the church. They have an online community where they offer support and encouragement for deepening marriages. In today’s interview, Ryan and Jenny share how they met, when God called them into ministry and how their passion for marriage developed. Ryan and Jenny also discuss some of their favorite rhythms in marriage and share how discussing hard topics like leadership and submission, from their book, can be so key in building a better marriage.. . . . . . . .SHOW NOTES:A HUGE thank you to Ryan & Jenny Brown for joining us on the podcast today! If you want to find out more or grab your copy of their book, follow them at: www.the-marriage-experience.comAnd Jenny on IG!. . . . . . . .SUPPORT THIS PODCAST:To help support ‘Renew You’ including website and marketing expenses, interview costs, and staff on a monthly level for as little as $1 a month, please check out our Patreon site at: https://www.patreon.com/renewyoupodcast.. . . . . . . .A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR AMAZING SPONSORS/SUPPORTERS:Jack & Monroe Boutique - Trendy women’s clothingKingwood Moms - Giving Moms the gift of timeMonica Humphrey - Your friend, your neighbor, your realtorWellness Friends - Peace, Love, OilsHomeLove Real Estate Group - Exquisite Properties, Excellent ServiceTommy’s Express Car Wash - Wash, Rinse, RepeatCapella Creative - Bringing your story to lifeSpecial thanks to all of our PATREON SPONSORS! In conversation - a girls’ London day school & a senior girls’ boarding school. Post-lockdown many London families are reconsidering whether a city or country school would best suit their child. Would your daughter thrive better in London or out of the city? Heads of two of the UK's leading girls' schools discuss how their schools' locations impact on their pupils' education. Based in the Barbican, City of London School for Girls could not be more central. But outside the city, there are independent schools with acres of space, superb facilities, extended days and offering all the holistic benefits of residential education. What do day pupils do after school? Do country boarders miss London? Who has more freedom, boarders or day pupils? How diverse is the school? Jenny Brown : Reimagining What Makes Us Remarkable

Reimagined

As individuals we harbor many characteristics that make us remarkable, however we tend to define ourselves through external validators like our internships, club positions, jobs and grades. We often lose sight of the little things that make us remarkable — and, what our co-hosts found, were really all we had once the pandemic started. During this pandemic, we have learned small wins should be celebrated more often, as they serve a greater purpose in our self worth.   In this episode, we chat with Jenny Brown, a developer advocate at Google and a facilitator of Google’s #IAmRemarkable , an event that aims to empower women and other underrepresented groups to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond. We chat about Jenny’s non traditional path to Google and the unique characteristics that she brings to the table, the purpose of #IAmRemarkable and how initiating conversations about self-reflection & sharing moments of internal validation can help create spaces where everyone can celebrate being their most authentic self.
