With a background in competitive running and a passion for cross-training, Rebecca Hammond took the leap into OCR and was soon wiping out the competition. With her easy smile and open attitude, she fast became a much-loved regular on the OCR scene. Behind the scenes, she was also working towards completing her medical degree and has now taken another leap; this time into Psychiatry. I talk to her about her athletic history and plans, what she sees for her future in the sport, and we delve into the human mind and mental health.

As a student-athlete at Swarthmore, Rebecca Hammond ’13 earned All-American status in the 1,500-meter run and graduated with highest honors in biology. Since graduating, she went on to become the second-ranked Spartan Race athlete in the world, appear on the cast of the TV The Million Dollar Mile, and earn her MD from Harvard Medical School with plans to begin a residency program in psychiatry in 2021.
