99. How To Imbue Your Soul With Joy with Sam Gibbs
The Resilient Minds Podcast
As we surround ourselves with ambition, there is a danger of being overcome by the warrior inside us all. Some people like to celebrate that kind of mindset, but where will it lead us in the end?If we frame our efforts around the idea of struggle, of domination and power, even challenges we have already overcome can become a burden. By defining ourselves as a survivor, as someone who is locked in a struggle against life, then we will be forever focused on what is coming next, always reacting, and never able to live freely in the moment. Survival mode is no way to live a life of abundance!Sam Gibbs knows the power a frame of mind can have over our life better than most. After spending years trying to 'fix' things that were wrong with him, he realized that beneath all that was an inherent admission that he was somehow 'broken' or 'less than' others. That kind of thinking cannot nourish the love that we have in our hearts, for ourselves or for other people, and in a world where our greatest legacy can only be love, it's our duty to amplify it however we can.We don't need to be perfect to be happy, we're born to be joyful. We don't need to earn happiness and joy, they're our birthrights. We are not survivors, but thrivers! So soften that warrior's soul and put an end to competition. Start collaborating, start building something together. Start helping other people to help everybody else. Our creativity will shift the world. Be always beginning, always learning. Be curious. These are some of the tips that Sam Gibbs leaves us in this episode of The Resilient Minds Podcast.Sam Gibbs is the founder of Surrendr Retreats. #053: Sam Gibbs Morris on getting sober, settling for hope, toxic positivity, and discipline
Find The Others
Sam is a professional speaker, author, entrepreneur, and alignment coach helping guide people to heal from the sh*t they're scared to talk about. He has an absolutely incredible story which you’ll hear...After giving himself cancer from drinking twice, nearly dying in a crazy accident falling out of a window, and going in and out of rehab 5 times, he finally came to a decision that he was going to change and has never looked back. In his recent TED talk “Why You Need to Stop Settling For Hope,” he discusses how “hope” can trap people in a cycle of stories and excuses, and what we need to do to escape that cycle and gain the freedom to be ourselves. We talked all about this idea of settling for hope, discipline and self love, toxic positivity, and much much more. Sam has a bright future planned for The Major Sam Gibbs and her husband Christian took over The Major in Ramsbottom on the 4th of November and before that happened Sam got in touch and I said I’d love to have her on the show. Not only is The Major a popular local pub, it’s one of the first pubs I ever went to in Ramsbottom and I know lots of the regulars are keen to see what they have planned. Craft beers, pub food and dog treats Sam has had a manic first week, she told me she thinks they’ve only had about 25 hours sleep since they took on The Major. In our chat I found that they are planning on taking it more back to how it used to be at The Major, namely some craft beers and pub food. In addition, dogs are more than welcome, not only that but there are some free treats for dogs too. I know this will sit well with many local canine owners. They are aiming to have the kitchen open and serving food as early as this coming weekend and looking at getting some more craft beers on the pumps. I really enjoyed my chat with Sam, and I got a great feeling about the future of The Major, so far she’s ticked many of my own personal boxes.
