Tea & Honesty with Jules Sebastian

The Curious Life

Content Warning: This episode includes an open discussion about suicide. In this episode, I chat with the lovely Jules Sebastian, who you might know as a stylist, the host of the podcast and YouTube series Tea & Honesty and as the wife of singer and songwriter, Guy Sebastian. Jules can now add author to her list of achievements with the release of her first book Tea & Honesty. We sat down to chat about some of the important themes that Jules addresses in her book, from the perils of comparison in parenting, to understanding and raising wild boys and the challenges she has faced as a very busy mother of two, with a thriving media career and a schedule that demanded she make some tough decisions.Jules also shared her painful experiences with grief, following the loss of her brother to suicide. As anyone who has lost someone they love will know, the pain and the anguish can feel insurmountable. In this conversation, you will hear how beautifully Jules has been able to work through the loss, to find the moments of acceptance and joy, even through the darkest days. It’s incredibly heartening to hear her trademark positivity guiding her through what undoubtedly has been an immensely painful time for her family.Jules shares so much of her story in this heart warming chat and just like in her book, there are a lot of lessons to take away, for anyone who might be wondering how to get through the trenches they might find themselves in or have any sense of doubt about who they are and where they are heading. Plenty of inspiration here. You can find Jules on Insta at @julessebastian and her book Tea & Honesty is available at all good bookstores.Follow us @thecuriouslifepodcast and please take a moment to leave a rating and review on iTunes.Thank you to our lovely editor and VO queen, Julie Reynolds of @audiolemonade. Book Club - Tea & Honesty with Jules Sebastian

The Grown-Up Girls Report Podcast

In this episode I chat with Jules Sebastian about her first book Tea & Honesty. This book was such a joy to read - I even noticed that I started exclaiming out loud as I was reading it - regularly piping up with 'Absolutely' or 'Yes! Yes'. I very much felt that Jules and I were singing from the same songbook. In fact, I think she had me with her opening quote ‘Life is like a cup of tea. It’s all about how you make it.’ After discussing our favourite teas and Jules' honest confession that she isn't an Early Grey fanatic like myself, we workshop the book including: - the quest for identity and the importance of being brave and owning who you are - the importance of finding your community and keeping them close - empathy and the inspiring story of US based company - how comparison is the thief of joy - and why we need to put our blinkers on and focus on our own lane. - how fear can be so disabling and how Jules moves through her fear- the loss of Jules' brother, Andrew, to suicide, just 5 days after her wedding day and Jules' thoughts and approach to managing grief. Check out the website for more details. Thanks for listening. Alex xx

Jules Sebastian on the impact of idol and the power of being yourself

Feed Play Love

Oscar Wilde once said "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." It is a quote that fits with the way Jules Sebastian lives. A young woman when her then-boyfriend Guy Sebastian became a star through Australian Idol, Jules has moved through the big changes in her life with the attitude that authenticity counts. Six years ago she started an online interview series called Tea with Jules and she has just released a book called Tea and Honesty based on those interviews. Jules talks about how her world is divided between before and after Idol, what it means to be a mum and wife with a roving musician for a husband and what she gets out of honest, deep conversations.
