Lost And Sound

Composer, synthesist, producer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith makes music that blends synthesizers with melodies and connects to external processes in her life like yoga, self learning, science and nature. Her 9th studio album Let’s Turn It Into Sound (released on Ghostly) follows on from acclaimed albums like Ears and The Kid, and her collaboration with electronic music pioner Suzanne Ciani. During the record of it, she dubbed it her sentimental robot drama. She spoke with Paul via the Pacific Northwest to talk about her approaches to music and life. This episode is sponsored by Audio-TechnicaPaul’s debut book, Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture Capital is out now on Velocity Press. The Trap Set with Joe Wong

With a formal background in sound engineering, classical guitar, and composition--coupled with a deeply curious mind--Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is the author of beautifully meditative, vast and vivid soundscapes. She and Joe discuss: how her independent study background prepared her for Berklee; how meditation made her a better listener; getting to know one's subconscious mind; her fortuitous discovery of a Buchla synthesizer; medulla therapy; and Flamin' Hot Cheetos. During the age of social distancing, we're releasing daily episodes.

#267 - Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Clap! Clap!, Roll The Dice & Glasser, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, JP y Los Marcianos Galácticos - 23 March 2020

Independent Music Podcast

In these strange times, this may be the last 'proper' new podcast for some time. We will keep the feed awash with great music, but we're not 100% sure whether we'll be able to record new shows in the manner you've come accustomed to.  Despite the uncertainty, there's still a whole lot of new exciting music out there, and - as usual - that's what we want to focus on. Whether it's Uruguayan garage, Italian dub techno, or Glaswegian DIY non-jazz, we've got the good stuff for you. If you can, please support bands, artists, record labels, promoters, and venues at this tough time. Without them the world would be a much poorer place. Tracklisting Taupe - Almera Tino (Scant Records, UK) Roll The Dice & Glasser - Elevate (The New Black, Sweden) Dean Blunt - War Report Freestyle (World Music, UK) JP y Los Marcianos Galácticos - Praying Mantis (Chape Records, Uruguay) Pluralist - UN Sanctions (feat. Rex Domino) (Manuka Records, UK) Clap! Clap! - Southern Dub (feat. Domenico Candellori) (Black Acre, UK) Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – Rubbernecker (Rocket Recordings, UK) 69 Complex - The Witness Room (Hamfuggi Records, Spain) Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - Expanding Electricity (Ghostly International, USA) Frak - Arcitect (Höga Nord Rekords, Sweden) Produced and edited by Nick McCorriston. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - The Art Of Listening (#72)

Ten Laws with East Forest

Raised on Orcas Island off the coast of Washington state, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's compositions are surreal yet rooted in nature. Combining the organic elements of her upbringing with the technological prowess gained from her studies at Berklee College of Music, Kaitlyn's impact on modern music is distinct and significant. Informed by her experimentation and the unique sounds of the Buchla 100 synthesizer, Kaitlyn's music has put her on the path to global recognition. This upward trajectory was later cemented with the release of her 2015 full-length, Euclid, on Western Vinyl. The following year saw the launch of her celebrated 2016 album, EARS, as well as a collaboration with new age pioneer Suzanne Ciani. Both EARS and Kaitlyn's subsequent full length album The Kid have earned numerous best-of nods from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, Rolling Stone and SPIN. Additionally, Kaitlyn has been regularly scoring film, TV shows and spots for brands. Her collaborations include projects with Google, Reggie Watts and Ben Dickinson’s short film Brasilia, as well as the 2018 Duplass brothers film Duck Butter. Kaitlyn's participation in the 2018 Telekinesis event saw her performing with the BBC Orchestra, and later that year she headlined alongside Grizzly Bear and TV On The Radio at the Hollywood Bowl. https://www.instagram.com/kaitlynaurelia/http://eastforest.org/podcast
