Scott Beck & Bryan Woods on A QUIET PLACE & Quibi's 50 STATES OF FRIGHT
Kare Reviews Podcast
I recently had the great pleasure of interviewing Scott Beck & Bryan Woods, a filmmaking team who have both produced, written, and directed a three-part episode of the Quibi horror anthology series, 50 STATES OF FRIGHT. They are also two of the three screenwriters behind the 2018 critically acclaimed box office hit, A QUIET PLACE, which they both collaborated on with co-writer, director, and star John Krasinski. Scott Beck & Bryan Woods both first met as sixth-graders in their hometown of Bettendorf, Iowa. After discovering a shared interest in cinema, the duo began collaborating on stop-motion movies with their STAR WARS action figures. Their movie, A QUIET PLACE, was named as a Top Ten Film of 2018 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. Beck & Woods' script earned them the Saturn Award for Best Writing, alongside nominations from the Writers Guild and the Critics Choice Awards, and was named one of the year's ten best scripts by The Tracking Board Hit List. For those interested in watching 50 STATES OF FRIGHT, all episodes are available to stream on Quibi. For those who haven’t downloaded the app yet, it is available on Apple and Google. Filmmakers Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A QUIET PLACE, HAUNT) sit down with Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss their career journey as a duo. From making multiple feature films together while still going to High School in Iowa… to the benefits of never forgetting where they came from… to analyzing why it’s mainly other filmmakers who are so critical over every single thing they watch… to having to make the decision to let someone else direct A QUIET PLACE (and how well that decision ultimately panned out)… this incredibly candid conversation perfectly illustrates why Beck and Woods are currently two of the most exciting filmmakers to watch. Dr. Arwen provides a windfall of advice equal to 4 full years of film school for an aspiring filmmaker in need of “Hollywood Therapy” over her anxiety about the steps she needs to take in pursuing her dream, the group splishes over STAR WARS (if you were part of THE MOVIE CRYPT LIVE family you’d be splishing, too), and Joe accepts Adam’s challenge to defend a made up holiday based around a specific kind of pizza. Please don’t let his program go away! Support THE MOVIE CRYPT on Patreon.com/TheMovieCrypt and keep new episodes coming every week! Even just $1 a month can make a difference but for just a few bucks more you can get early access to every new episode, bonus weekly episodes of “Classic Crypt” from the back catalogue, bonus monthly commentary episodes, Adam and Joe’s monthly “Crypt Picks” videos, access to Adam and Joe’s personal “Crypt Diaries,” access to the monthly LIVE episodes, access to “Hollywood Therapy” and “Viewer Mail,” and more!
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods — Writers of HAUNT and A QUIET PLACE
The Script Lab Podcast
About: The new film Haunt, written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, is the perfect follow up to A Quiet Place (2018) and scared the living daylights out of me. If you like haunted houses, oh-so-creepy masks and intense gore, you’ll love this more traditional slasher movie. I sat down with Scott and Bryan to find out how to write a character-driven horror film, and see if they could share any details about A Quiet Place 2, which is set to release in 2020. Starring Katie Stevens (Faking It) and Will Brittain (William), Haunt centers around a group of friends who encounter an extreme haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly, however, as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real. Guests: Bryan Woods was born on September 14, 1984 in Davenport, Iowa, USA. He is a producer and writer, known for A Quiet Place (2018), Haunt (2019) and Nightlight (2015). Scott Beck was born on October 22, 1984 in Denver, Colorado, USA.
