Digital Cash Network

Paul Puey, CEO of Edge Wallet, comes on the podcast to chat about MicroStrategy buying the dip on Bitcoin, ushering in a new era of retail investors, and what that means for the "little guy" actually owning Bitcoin private keys vs. owning a stake that some company really owns. We also talked about Ethereum scaling, and the DeFi rush, and how huge it is that major parts of the centralized trading ecosystem are becoming decentralized now. Connecting the Consumer to Cryptocurrency with Paul Puey

Tacos and Tech Podcast

Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, and other platforms. Paul Puey, the Co-Founder and CEO of Edge, formally known as AirBitz, hopes to decentralize financial services, connecting the consumer directly to their cryptocurrency.  Paul grew up in the Bay Area where he was often reminded of the increasing importance of tech. He shared that he always had some interest in computer science, creating his first database in the seventh grade while working on real estate mailout campaigns. He would later attend University of California, Berkeley, where he studied electrical engineering and computer science. There he developed a game and found a great passion for 3D graphics, which led to six years at NVIDIA as a software engineer.  He eventually came down to San Diego with little to no connections and found himself working at a local climbing gym, MesaRim, where he helped build out their programs. He didn’t think he’d find himself back in the tech space, but a single line on a financial blog brought his attention to Bitcoin. It was from there he “went down the rabbithole,” doing extensive research about the future of cryptocurrency. That led him to work with William Swanson, Scott Morgan, Daven Catillo, and Tim Horton to found AirBitz, a crypto wallet that allowed users to hold their own funds and transact without a third party.  With time, the team realized that users wanted to treat their currency like an asset. So, they transitioned to a mobile-exchange wallet and rebranded it as Edge. The startup quickly advanced from a bitcoin wallet in 2014 to a security solution and multi-currency wallet in late 2017.  Despite launching both Airbitz and Edge during “down” cycles of Bitcoin (which happen every three to four years), the team has still been able to increase its user base and grow the company. Using exchange volume as its primary metric, Edge has grown steady from 2018 to 2020, with an especially impressive growth rate in the first month of 2021.  Paul was one of the frontrunners of Bitcoin, known as an ‘OG’ in the community. He brought this knowledge not only to his company, but also to San Diego, hosting Bitcoin meetups since AirBitz was first founded.  Listen in to hear Paul discuss the future of financial services and what kind of role he hopes Edge can play in this hot market.  Favorite Tacos:  Traditional - Tacos El Cabrón in Downtown  Non-Traditional - City Tacos in North Park   Connect with Paul: LinkedIn Keep up with Edge: Website LinkedIn Facebook: @EdgeWallet Thanks to our partners at Cox Business for their support in enabling us to grow the San Diego ecosystem.

The Tatiana Show - Deep Dive into DeFi with Edge CEO Paul Puey and Guest Co-Host Amber Urquhart

Liberty.me Studio

What exactly is DeFi, and what does it mean for the future of crypto? Edge CEO Paul Puey joins Tatiana and special guest Co-host Amber Urquhart to talk all about it!DeFi, or Decentralized Finance, is the technology that many believe is the next logical evolution of cryptocurrency, making it possible to use cryptocurrency to collateralize loans, do futures investing, and other services that banks currently offer for far worse interest rates. Paul takes Tatiana & Amber in-depth to talk about how exactly it works, what you can use it for, and why he finds it so fascinating.Paul also talks about how DeFi could affect gold-backed crypto services, app development in the crypto space, and how early DeFi projects’ airdrops were a net negative. Paul also discusses a real-world application, with an algorithm-based smart contract system that automatically moves your money into the investments with the highest returns, but also the risks involved in DeFi as an investment system. He also explains why Ethereum is likely to remain the backbone of DeFi for a long time to come, but also gives his thoughts on newer DeFi systems that take advantage of Bitcoin. It’s a fascinating conversation with one of crypto’s biggest movers and shakers, so give it a listen, and don’t forget to subscribe through your favorite podcasting app!About the Guest:Paul is a proud Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduate of UC Berkeley with a wide range of technical skills from low-level 3D graphics systems engineering to development of custom web CMS systems, back before people knew what a CMS was.He held a lead engineering position with Nvidia and significantly contributed to the design of highly cross platform software architecture enabling code-reuse across multiple ASIC generations and across multiple operating systems. A stickler for proper architecture, he insists on projects being designed from the ground up for maintainability and scalability. Most recently he applied his organizational skills to owning and operated several non-technical small businesses throughout California. There he implemented solutions to bridge the intersection between people, business, and technology and learned how incredibly important a fluid user experience is to the acceptance, adoption, and functionality of technology. In his return back to tech in 2013, he is combining the wide range of life experiences and career paths to drive a company that bridges the complex technology of Bitcoin with the simplicity and function needed by the mass consumer and business owner. Being a strong advocate of the positive potential of Bitcoin, he also organizes regular Bitcoin meetup groups and presentations to help educate the general public. When not converting people to Bitcoin you’ll likely find him climbing a rock in Joshua Tree or at a local climbing gym.If you like this content, please send a tip with BTC to 1Q2QHoNowg8D2QzWhBQU1YrraG771aCpgSMore Info: Tatiana Moroz – https://tatianamoroz.comCrypto Media Hub – https://cryptomediahub.comVaultoro – https://vaultoro.comEdge – https://edge.appFriends and Sponsors of the Show:Proof of Love – https://proofoflovecast.comGlobal Crypto Advisors – http://globalcryptoadvisors.io*You have been listening to the Tatiana Show.
