Mike Harmeier (Mike and the Moonpies)

DittyTV's Insights | Music Interviews

Today our guest is Mike Harmeier. Mike leads the acclaimed country-rock outfit from down in Austin, TX known as Mike and the Moonpies, a band with extra-tasty guitar licks, great grooves, lyrics that conjure up nostalgia, and a sound that’s old school, but without coming across as imitation. In other words, they’re the real deal. We always enjoy talking with Mike and we learn something new in each conversation. He’s intuitive on stage, he’s dedicated to his craft, and he’s got a clear vision for what he wants. We connected to talk about the band’s brand-new, eighth studio album, One To Grow On, and much more. So let’s get to it! Part of Pantheon Podcasts

096: Mike Harmeier & Adam Odor

New Slang

On Episode 096, I'm joined by Mike Harmeier, the lead vocalist of blazing country outfit Mike and The Moonpies, and music producer Adam Odor. Mike and The Moonpies just released Touch of You: The Lost Songs of Gary Stewart, a 10 song collection of previously unreleased songs by the late iconic honky-tonking country legend. Here, I catch up with Harmeier and Odor to talk about how the instant classic collection came to be, recording the album during a Quarantine, and how essential Stewart is to the Moonpies sound. We dip into conversation about their previous works like Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold, writing songs with winking meta self-references, and of course, our favorite classic video games such as Goldeneye & Red Dead Redemption. This episode's presenting partner is Smith Iron & Design and Wicker's Mesquite Smoked Jalapeno Jelly.New Slang PatreonNew Slang TwitterNew Slang InstagramNew Slang FacebookNew Slang Merch StoreThe Neon Eon PodcastThe Neon Eon Merch StoreSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/ThomasMooney)

Mike and The Moonpies - Frontman Mike Harmeier

THE TROUBADOUR PODCAST - The Premier Red Dirt, Texas Country and Independent Music Podcast

Mike and the Moonpies front man, Mike Harmeier was singing in bars by his early teens.  Don’t take my word for it though.  Just check out their song, “Steak Night at the Prairie Rose” and that should give you a pretty good idea of just who Mike Harmeier is. Mike and the Moonpies were once known as Austin’s premier dancehall band with several residencies around town before more recently taking their show from coast to coast. One of the things that sticks out to me about the Moonpies is their use of “twinning” on steel and lead guitar on several of their songs.  If you don’t know what twinning is, never fear.  We discuss it a little further in depth in the episode. Their latest record, recorded at world famous, Abbey Road studios in London entitled Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold is chock full of great songs and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, I highly encourage it. So here we go with episode #73 of The Troubadour featuring our interview with Mike Harmeier, frontman of Mike and the Moonpies.
