Alissa Timoshkina - 'Pivoting in our careers'

Ladies of Mumble

We admire Alissa Timoshkina for 101 reasons. Charming, clever and an incredibly driven mama. She worked as curator and coordinator of film festivals in London. However, her passion for cooking and hosting dinner parties, gradually turned into an obsession and Alissa left her job to launch a new project: a cinema-supper club called KinoVino, which offers film screenings and sit-down dinners with unique menus inspired by the films. She is also the author of 'Salt and Time' a gorgeous and beautifully written Russian cookbook. Check out her podcast, MotherFood (available on Spotify, Apple, Google etc. ) which is dedicated to mothers who turned a traditional role of feeding into a professional success.  We loved interviewing Alissa a heartfelt discussions filled with memories, practical tips and honest insight.

S01 E05: Nourishing the Mother with Alissa Timoshkina

A Mother's Space

This week I’m speaking with Alissa Timoshkina, Author, Chef, Writer, Podcast Host of Motherhood, Event Curator & Mama. Alissa has had an interesting journey in life, moving from her home country of Russia during her formative years, struggling with an eating disorder (ED), becoming fascinated with food, and then becoming a mother. Women are much more likely to have an ED than men and Alissa wants to liberate women from the grasp of the patriarchal norms of how we should look and what we should eat. In this episode, we talk about the importance of nourishing the mother, what that means, and how we can work towards a healthy relationship with food. Food cultivates nourishment, community, and connection. Alissa explains how our relationship to food transitions alongside our motherhood journey and the importance of healing our relationship with food, leading to creating positive relationships with food for our children.

S1 E1 MotherFood with Alissa Timoshkina, host of this podcast, author, events planner and cook

In this episode Alissa shares her own story of how food and motherhood seemed to exist in her life in an almost inseparable, mystical way. Her conflicting ideas about womanhood being defined by motherhood, of how her cultural and family background shaped her relationship to food and fertility, of her new role as a mother and as a professional paving a career in food. It is an honest conversation about the joys and the struggles of postpartum, of how it is possible to find your way back to cooking and feeding and of whether we as modern mothers need to separate our careers from our personal lives. Alissa speaks to Kim Barnard, a mom and a coach for entrepreneur mothers. Follow Alissa on Instagram @alissatimoshkina
