Sundance 2020: Carolyn Talks With Anthony Willis, Composer of 'Promising Young Woman'

So Here's What Happened

Composer, Anthony Willis sets the musical tone of his latest feature film project, Promising Young Woman with a mix of orchestral renditions of popular disco and pop songs such as “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls, and light airy pieces, giving the film a dark fairytale atmosphere that perfectly fits its tale of hope and revenge. During the 2020 Sundance Films Festival, Carolyn had the opportunity to speak with Willis about his work on Promising Young Woman. Written and directed by Emerald Fennell, Promising Young Woman shows how the thirst for vengeance, guilt, and loneliness make for a dangerous combination, when Cassie (Carey Mulligan), decides to seek retribution against so-called “nice guys”, after the death of her best friend Nina.
