Growing Ingredients at Home with Zac Posen and Candice Walker

Whether you’re talking tomatoes or turmeric, homecooks can benefit greatly from growing ingredients at home. And the best part is you don’t need to have a huge yard or a green thumb to do so. Today, Homemade host Martie Duncan is joined by two guests who swear by the ability to throw in a spice or a veggie at a moment’s notice from their own hard work! Acclaimed clothing designer to the stars and former Project Runway judge Zac Posen joins Martie to discuss the similarities between food and fashion, as well as how cooking has been a respite for him away from the glitz and glamour. Then, Allrecipes All-Star Candice Walker stops by to encourage us to forgo the shame and guilt that comes with eating, and she chats about how her mixed heritage influences her culinary palette.  Learn more about your ad choices. What Happened to Zac Posen and a Generation of American Fashion Designers?

The Conversations

American fashion designers have been riding the hype machine for over two decades. The playbook often involves Anna Wintour's anointment closely followed by Vogue, the CFDA and few other retailers and gate keepers as 'one to watch'. Hollywood is courted, then muses and clients, with the public expected to follow suit, leading a designer to great long term success. As evidenced by the closure of a host of American labels in recent years — most recently the well-liked Zac Posen — is this formula is flawed?  What was once seen as a dream making recipe has proven otherwise, with the rise of digital, social media, direct to consumer practices and increasing consumer power. In this episode, we dissect the America fashion scene.    We hope you enjoy, subscribe, comment and continue to support and join the conversation!

Episode 330: Cooking with Zac Posen

On today's episode of THE FOOD SEEN, haute cuisine takes cues from haute couture with famed fashion designer Zac Posen. When he's not on Project Runway, he's often on his parent's Pennsylvania farm, tending the garden, or dreaming up dinner parties with color and textures to match the season's collection. In his book, Cooking with Zac, Posen proves that he's just as creative in the kitchen as he is in his atelier; using influences from his Jewish background to travels in Japan. Though he grew up wanting to be a butcher, an internship with Nicole Miller changed it all! Imagine what those aprons would have looked like though?!
