#22 Melody McAllister, Educator/Author of I'm Sorry Story
Edu with you
Welcome to episode #22 of Edu with you Teacher Podcast! This episode features educator and published author, Melody McAllister.Melody lives in Anchorage, Alaska with her husband and five children. The McAllister Family previously resided in the state of Texas where Melody was awarded the 2017 Garland NAACP Educator of the Year. Mrs. McAllister authored the children's book, I'm Sorry Story, which promotes social awareness and apologizing for our shortcomings. You can find links to Melody's social media platforms and website below.Melody joins us to share her educational history, teaching experiences in Garland, TX and the life lessons from new cultures, inclusion, representation, and her goals as an educator of making sure students felt they belonged always. Next, Melody describes the story behind, I'm Sorry Story and the goal of the children’s book. There are many creative gems during this part that you will not want to miss! Becoming a published author was sweet but according to Mel, she has been brought to tears by the impact the book has had. Lastly, Melody is questioned on the mindset and decision to become a teacher/entrepreneur and how this endeavor has been opening doors for her to be creative, have fun, and find opportunities to help others. Through her work, she has found opportunities such as managing logistics for EduMatch Publishing and guest speaking for ISTE and ASTE. I happened to find Melody on Facebook during her LIVE streams where she conducts weekly book chats with authors and friends. She is what we deemed in the conversation, a “workaholic” and always coming up with a new idea or fun chat. This episode will leave you engulfed and connected and possibly wanting to dust off your pen or keyboard to start on that book idea.Thank you for listening.
