Laura Gassner Otting on how to handle success

The Human Risk Podcast

Why does success not always bring happiness? On this episode, I speak with Laura Gassing Otting, who, in her own words, helps leaders get unstuck. She is a best-selling author who has previously set up a recruitment agency, helping many leaders to manage their careers on their terms and to carve their own paths. As you'll hear, that means removing some limiting factors like impostor syndrome or having your success defined by others. And she's helped people to get the best out of themselves. If you're a regular listener to the show, you'll know that I like having people who bring a fresh perspective and help us think differently about the world. As someone who's moved from a corporate career to being self-employed and branching out into a career path that I've defined for myself, I spent a lot of time thinking about what success means when there's no longer a well-trodden path to follow. You have to start working these things out for yourself. What Laura has to share is fascinating. We often have a view of what success means and how we will get there. Though, when we do reach those pinnacles, it can often be quite disappointing. So if we want to get the best out of ourselves and others, we should listen to people like Laura, who can show us where the traditional models might have flaws. Laura Gassner Otting: Executive Coach, Media Personality and Bestselling Author

Coaches on Zoom Drinking Coffee

In this episode of Coaches on Zoom Drinking Coffee, Coaching.com CEO Alex Pascal sits down with Laura Gassner Otting, executive coach, media personality, and the author of Limitless: How to Ignore Everybody, Carve Your Own Path, and Live Your Best Life. You may already recognize Laura as a repeat TED-talker, but through this conversation, you’ll get to know her at a much deeper level. Laura first encountered coaching as she sold her mission-first business, and she tells Alex how a coach helped her stay honest and accountable to her values throughout the process.Together, Laura and Alex also tackle the age-old question of “how hands-on should a leader really be?” They discuss the differences between leadership and management as well as the unique skill sets required to succeed in each. Using the metaphor of composers vs conductors, Laura shares how she learned that the person who created the vision isn’t always the person who should execute it.Laura’s book Limitless is about finding your own path in the face of external expectations, and in this episode, she connects its message to the “Great Resignation” and other post-pandemic phenomena. She also shares her writing process and the real-life experiences that lie behind the book’s philosophy.Need a little energy and inspiration? How To Know You're Truly Successful (With Laura Gassner Otting)

BetterWealth with Caleb Guilliams

How do you know if you're truly successful? Or the bigger question, "how do you find your purpose in life? This is the age old question every person has asked themselves at least once. In this podcast I tackle these timeless questions with Laura Gassner Otting, a TEDx speaker who's sure to get your mind running with her thought provoking and inspiring messages.Guest BioOver the course of my 20-year career studying, recruiting, and stewarding leaders through massive career change, I’ve witnessed over and over that true success comes from a combination of four elements (calling, connection, contribution, and control) which remove external and internal limits, and empower individuals to carve their own paths and use their work to live their best lives — what I term Consonance. Simply defined, consonance is when the “what” you do matches the “who” you are (or want to be).Guest LinksLaura's TEDx Talk - https://youtu.be/XYMM9joekdEWonderhell - https://www.lauragassnerotting.com/wonderhellLaura's Website - https://www.lauragassnerotting.com/ #BetterWealth Free 15 Minute Clarity Call: https://bttr.ly/ytclarity The And Asset Book: https://bttr.ly/book BetterWealth Quiz:  https://bttr.ly/quiz AndAsset.com:  https://bttr.ly/andasset BetterWealth Youtube - https://bttr.ly/bwyoutube Financial Advisor, Agent or Coach: https://bttr.ly/advisor

Getting out of the Golden Handcuffs: Failures & Lessons as a Leader with Laura Gassner Otting

Everyday Leadership

"We love to talk about failure in hindsight...the question is not whether you’ll fail or not, the question is will you learn, from the failure?" Redefining our understanding and relationships with failure and challenges, is what set certain people apart. You know the ones that seem to remain so calm and zen regardless of what’s happening? The one thing they have in common, alongside this week's guest, is knowing that failure is a potential lesson, and it’s definitely an opportunity for something new. So how do you get out of your bubble and learn to listen to yourself rather than others? How do you discover doors and reach the success, that you want, the true authentic you? In this weeks episode, Laura Gassner Otting and I discuss how you can positively move through any space with authenticity and understanding of yourself. It’s about trying to get some hindsight before it happens. So don’t always look and listen for help externally, as you are the only one that can lead yourself.
