Homesick for Heaven a Conversation with Elyse Fitzpatrick
In His Grip
Have you ever been away from home, and all you wanted was to go home to your familiar surroundings, your family – your bed? You feel homesick. In this conversation with Sharon Betters, Elyse Fitzpatrick describes how a difficult time in her life resulted in her longing for something more. She concluded she was homesick for heaven. Elyse helps us better understand how a biblical view of heaven can be a source of great comfort when life turns upside down. She encourages us to learn more about our eternal destination, just as we would if we were planning a visit to another country. Rather than eating grapes and being fanned by angels during an eternal worship service, Elyse paints a picture of a perfected earth, a real, physical place that we will explore and enjoy with real bodies in a world where there is no more sickness, death or tears.

Interview with Elyse Fitzpatrick and Eric Schumacher
In this episode, we sit down with Elyse Fitzpatrick and Eric Schumacher, co-authors of the new book Jesus and Gender: Living as Sisters and Brothers in Christ (released April 2022) to discuss their new book and the state of gender discussions in the church. ** About the bookMuch teaching on gender relations, roles, and rules binds the conscience beyond what Scripture actually teaches. Gender has become a battleground for power. But God created men and women not to compete for glory but to cooperate for his glory. In Jesus and Gender, Elyse and Eric paint a new vision for gender―Christ's gentle and lowly heart. Drawing from Scripture and experience, Elyse and Eric show how Jesus's example speaks to all areas of our lives as men and women, including vocation, marriage, parenting, friendships, and relating to each other as sisters and brothers in Christ. Real-life testimonies from a variety of Christians―including Christine Caine, Justin Holcomb, Karen Swallow Prior, and others―show a variety of men and women freed to pursue their gifts for God's glory. In part 2 of this episode, Elyse and Eric discuss: How to place our confidence in the Lord when we fall into the lies of pride and self-loathing. Responding to people who fear that discussing the value of women is a slippery slope to egalitarianism. Women in the new covenant are not to be quantified based on their relationship status but recognized for their partnership in the gospel. How fearing women leads to dehumanizing and objectifying women which leads to pornography and abuse. The meaning of having a “gentle and quiet spirit” in 1 Peter 3:4 and how it does not mean women are to be quiet and not have an opinion. Encouragement for single women and affirmation of their value and work in the kingdom of God Resources mentioned: Worthy: Celebrating the Value of Women https://amzn.to/3IMt3AG How I’m Learning to Honor Vocations of Women in My Congregation by Eric Schumacher https://www.madetoflourish.org/resources/how-im-learning-to-honor-the-vocations-of-women-in-my-congregation Worthy Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/worthy-celebrating-the-value-of-women/id1497732229
