We were talking Trades on Tuesday afternoon. Fewer and fewer young people are choosing trades as a career path. What tools are being used here in Erie to encourage new workers to enter the trades? On our panel were Mary Bula, Director of Erie Together, and creator and facilitator of the Erie County Career Pathways Alliance. Julie Slomski, Director of the Governor’s Northwest Regional Office, shared about the grants and investments being made to help prepare kids for future careers in the trades. Jim Nuber, Business Manager for the IBEW Local Union # 56, gave his perspective as a union trade worker and the available apprenticeships in the construction trades.
