Blynd Submyshynz Episode 17: Chris Hughes of Stereo Lunch Studio

Blynd Submyshynz

This week’s episode is a real treat, featuring Jeff’s friend, and engineer/mixer/producer on both KOOK records Chris Hughes. Chris is a multi-talented engineer, producer, mastering engineer, and musician producing DIY bands from many genres. We’ve actually already done a (semi) blind listen of Chris’ solo project Silent Type on the Billy Goate episode, and he talks about moving to LA and launching Stereo Lunch Mixing Studio. We also get into the music scene growing up in Denver, why he is a fan of Havoc, and if Denver truly is heavier now.As of 2020, Chris is a full-blown member of the recording academy and Grammy voter (we talk about it). It was killer to catch up, talk about projects Chris has been working on during the pandemic, hear his story of recording a death metal record on the beach in El Salvador, and have some obligatory beer talk. And remember, we still have 2 contests going for King Buffalo Live at Freak Valley on double LP. 23: Celeb Hypnotist Chris Hughes...Hypnotises Andrew

On the Edge with Andrew Gold

Chris Hughes is a hypnotist from Oxfordshire who once hypnotised over a million people across 130 countries at once – online. Check out SocialTrance for that on YouTube for that and type his name – Chris Hughes followed by hypnotist into Google to find his wiki page, Twitter account and official website. Chris has also showcased his modern approach to hypnosis across several BBC channels and other prominent TV stations – and what Chris specialises in is hypnotherapy, which uses hypnosis to help people tweak their subconscious. That is, he’ll cure your phobia of spiders, he’ll help you quit smoking, he’ll help you lose weight. He’s a firm believer that talking is great for talking’s sake and can make you feel better, but hypnosis is the real gem that can cut to the source and sort you out. He has an office on the reputable medical district of Harley Street, and hypnotism is often listed as a potential treatment on the National Health Service website and other dependable sources, so why not? I was also interested in speaking to him to understand a little more about what I’d experienced with exorcism. I performed an exorcism for a BBC 3 documentary a couple years ago in Argentina, and I found that all the patients, if we can call them that, seemed to be cured of their issues. That said, many of them fell back into depression, anxiety and whatever else they were suffering from. I was keen to ask Chris about that, so sent him a link – which you can find on BBC iPlayer or YouTube, just type Andrew Gold exorcism, you’ll find it. We talk about how hypnotism works, how it can help people and the ethics around hypnotists using what they’ve learned on members of the opposite sex, or on their children to get them to do their chores. I also ask what pushed him to get into hypnotism, but inexplicably left that bit until the last question. Ep. 35 Facebook Founder, Chris Hughes, Makes the Case for Guaranteed Income

Catalysts for Change

On today’s Catalysts for Change, Jill talks to Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and co-chair of the Economic Security Project. As the Shah Foundation begins to support a new guaranteed income program in Chelsea MA, Chris’s work with the Economic Security Project and focus on guaranteed income is relevant and important to understanding guaranteed income initiatives. Chris’s work with the Economic Security Project focuses on supporting policies and initiatives for guaranteed income, which provides individuals with a set amount of money. As co-founder of the Economic Security Project, he has led work to rewrite federal and state tax codes to create a monthly tax credit for Americans most in need, a policy which would create a guaranteed income for working people in the United States, among other initiatives. In addition to his work at the Economic Security Project, Chris also works with the Roosevelt Institute, a progressive think tank working to reimagine the rules of the economy. Before becoming involved in work with guaranteed income, Chris co-founded Facebook and also worked for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. Initiatives in guaranteed income have been seen across the country, with many advocates calling for nation-wide programs, especially with the rise of unemployment rates and wealth gaps during the COVID-19 crisis. We talk to Chris about the basics of guaranteed income, its effects, his work with the Economic Security Project, and more about current policies and pilots. The Foundation excited to be piloting a guaranteed income program in Chelsea MA. If you’d like to learn more about this initiative as well as more info about guaranteed income and Chris’s work, check out the resources listed below. Here is a link to a recent Boston Globe article about a new guaranteed income project in Chelsea MA Here is a link to donate to the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, which will help support this guaranteed income project in Chelsea A recent New York Times op-ed by Chris Hughes about the need of a guaranteed income Background on concepts of a universal basic income (UBI)  Economic Security Project Website
