Rachel Bertsche, THE KIDS ARE IN BED

Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books

Rachel Bertsche is the best-selling author of MWF Seeking BFF: My Yearlong Search for a New Best Friend, and Jennifer, Gwyneth & Me: The Pursuit of Happiness, One Celebrity at a Time. I'm obsessed with her latest book called The Kids Are in Bed: Finding Time for Yourself in the Chaos of Parenting. It’s so on brand for me and my podcast because it's all about finding ways to create and use our #momtime. Rachel and I talked about her research into the areas of our lives that fall to the wayside when we have kids, letting go of the guilt we have as parents to get everything done, and tips for what she calls creating "pockets of indulgence.” Sometimes all you need is 20 minutes to see a friend (in the non-COVID days) or read a book. I just love this approach and I'm really trying to follow this wisdom! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

63. Balancing the Mental Load and Me Time with Rachel Bertsche

Comfort Food

Losing yourself in parenthood is such a common struggle, especially for moms, because the sheer logistics of caring, feeding, and scheduling our kids lives can be completely time consuming. But staying in touch with ourselves and the things we love (including watching trashy TV, connecting with our partners and eating food other than our kids' sandwich crusts) is vital to our happiness. This week we're chatting with Rachel Bertsche, author of The Kids Are In Bed, about how to find—and own!— your pockets of indulgence.  TAKE OUR LISTENER SURVEY! We want to know more about you, and what you think of Comfort Food. Please take our quick and easy survey so we can keep making this podcast better and better. The Kids are in Bed with Rachel Bertsche

The MomForce Podcast Hosted by Chatbooks

Vanessa and her sister Kara are joined by Rachel Bertsche, a New York Times bestselling author of The Kids Are In Bed. Rachel tells us how to be honest with ourselves about what we really enjoy, and all three discuss their personal identities outside of motherhood. Cause lets face it - this is hard! Motherhood and parenting is a wonderful gift, but do you ever feel like it becomes part of your identity and you start to forget what your life was like before your family? And even if you do have a chance to relax, you most likely might be thinking about the next appointment you have to get your children to or that nagging item you still haven’t checked off your to-do list. But parenthood can only be most fulfilling if you are the best version of yourself. So. How can you balance your identity as a person with your identity as a parent? Rachel suggests making a list of the things you can do for yourself as you take a little free time. She shares about what she enjoys doing, and encourages every mom and parent to enjoy the indulgences a little. What is your go to "selfcare" thing to do?
