299. Trust Makes Standards Possible | Chris Dudley | Cinco Ranch HS
"Deep down, our players want discipline. They want accountability." Chris Dudley, AC at Cinco Ranch HS, builds TRUST in his program with clear and consistent communication; "Aggressively over communicating" is how he puts it. With that trust in place, he is then able to hold his athletes to clear standards that set them up to succeed on the field and off as they learn to sign their name to something worthwhile and live up to the standards they've agreed upon. Key Takeaways: "To succeed in life you need some measure of organization." Productive doesn't equal finished. Sometimes we simply move the ball forward. Having players sign to a contract cuts through the haze of uncertainty. Underoath electronics wizard Chris Dudley is our guest this week. In celebration of the interview taking place on Friday the 13th, we discuss that film series in its entirety, apologists for Jason X and Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, how to introduce R-rated movies to your kids without taking it too far, and the last horror movie that actually scared us. Chris also tells us how much time Underoath spent practicing to make their recent observatory livestream performances as special as possible for fans, an update on the band's next album, his thoughts on releasing standalone singles during this bizarre time, and how artists tend to thrive when they have limitations like those in place right now. Petar, Jozalyn, and Sylvia discuss the movies, music videos, and comedies that scared them as kids, the babysitters they had that uttered the phrase “Don’t tell your parents,” and how that makes us feel today. Songs: Underoath - "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures” (Live) and "Too Bright To See, Too Loud to Hear” (Live)
Ep. 61 - How Lobbyists Impact Florida Government and Help Shape Tallahassee's Downtown - Chris Dudley, The Southern Group
Tallahassee Business Podcast
In this episode of the Tallahassee Business Podcast presented by 223 Agency, we are joined by Chris Dudley of The Southern Group. As a lobbyist, Dudley has a hand in shaping outcomes at the Capitol and also stays engaged in the Tallahassee community through service as Chair of the Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority and as a former Board member of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. The Southern Group is one of the most sought after lobbying and government affairs firms in the Southeast and during our discussion Dudley shares various insights on that industry. Dudley was inspired to pursue a career in government affairs by his father who spent many years serving in the Florida Legislature. After serving as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Jeb Bush, Dudley made the leap into lobbying by joining the Southern Group while the firm was still in its infancy. 20 years later, The Southern Group has become a major force in the Florida government. In this week's show, Dudley shines some light on what the lobbying world is really like, how things have changed in that industry over the past two decades, and why their firm continues to invest in a better downtown for Florida's Capital City.
