He has ridden for a number of the top domestic teams including Jelly Belly, Optum and United Health Care. Known as a sprinter and a closer, Ken can match watts with the best in the sport and has shined at National championships and races like the Tour of California. Ken got his start playing soccer and going to school at Cal Poly SLO. He picked up mountain biking and found out he had a real talent at cycling eventually winning collegiate criterium nationals. From there he quickly went professional and has ridden and won many races throughout his career. Now retired from pro cycling, he talks not only about how glorious his life in cycling was, but some of the challenges, the pitfalls and plain dysfunction of domestic American cycling. Teams he has ridden for that treated him like a win producing machine rather than a person. It put a bad taste in his mouth and he has had to deal with it all. Finding redemption and peace in a life outside of cycling, he takes comfort in the thought that he is beholden to no one and is free to speak his mind through his words in a world where riders go through extensive media training, this cathartic conversation is quite the opposite. Anyone who has dreamed of being a professional cyclist or any up and comer in the sport of cycling needs to listen to this unfiltered account of Kens experience in the peloton. We also announce our biggest Instagram contest giveaway to date. Some great cycling products are on tap to make a lucky listeners day! Follow the rules on Instagram to enter. This is a must listen to episode because Ken has a lot to say while he sat with us and recalled his time and contribution to the sport.
