Before the world heard of KISS, the New York Dolls, Marilyn Manson, or Ozzy Osbourne, there was Alice Cooper, the original shock-rock band. Dennis Dunaway is a founding member of the band. As teenagers in Phoenix, Dennis and lead singer Vince Furnier, who would later change his name to Alice Cooper, started the band that would take them from Hollywood, to Detroit and finally to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2015 Dennis wrote the book Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! , which is a riveting account of the band's creation in the '60s, the heyday in the '70s, and the legendary characters they met along the way. Dennis currently records and tours with Blue Coupe featuring Joe and Albert Bouchard of Blue Öyster Cult fame and singers Tish and Snooky who also happen to be the founders of Manic Panic.

Talkin' Rock with original Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway
Talkin' Rock With Meltdown Podcast
So grateful to have Dennis Dunaway and film director, Steve Gaddis, stop by the station today. They are doing the rounds promoting the doc "Live From The Astroturf, Alice Cooper". Of course that's one of the many topics we talk about..... * How the movie came about * The original group playing together * The current Alice Cooper band * Bass playing heroes * Being injured on stage * How they made Alice into Alice * A hysterical failed stage prop * How the band started * How they got their first record deal while waking up Frank Zappa * How fame changed them * Their time in Detroit * His favorite Alice album he plays on I really have to thanks Dennis and Steve (as well as Dennis' wife, Cindy) for coming to the station. This was a very fun conversation. If you like this and think it deserves it, write a review, give it a 5 star rating and please feel free to share it. Thank You for listening! A big thank you to Chris Penn and Ron Nelson for making this interview happen. -Meltdown- https://www.livefromtheastroturf.com/ https://twitter.com/FromAstroturf https://twitter.com/ColdColdCoffin https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/ https://twitter.com/MeltdownWRIF https://twitter.com/TalkinRockwith1
Original Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway talks about the inception of the Alice Cooper group from being high school friends with a young Alice Cooper to touring the world and making hit records like "Schools Out."
As teenagers in Phoenix, Dennis Dunaway, bassist and co-songwriter for the Alice Cooper group, and lead singer Vince Furnier (who would later change his name to Alice Cooper) formed a hard-knuckles band that played prisons, cowboy bars, and teens clubs. Their wild, impossible journey took them from Hollywood to the ferocious Detroit music scene, and along the way they discovered the utterly original performance style and look that would make them the stuff of legend.
