131 Characteristics of an Athletic Mindset (Or, How to Be Like Pro, Sarah Piampiano)

Purple Patch Podcast

If 2020 was a chapter in an athlete story, it would be classified as a massive challenge and a setback that includes disappointment and most certainly failure. But, the great athlete would navigate, learn, and overcome. A great athlete has the tools and wisdom to realize the path of performance is never linear. Today is Part Two on our series of performance culture and the athletic mindset. Last week, we dug into the cultural model of performance. It's the model that we utilize at Purple Patch and it is a way of doing something that unites individuals and creates a collective resilience. And at the end of the day, the individuals that thrive within that culture lean into a suite of traits and characteristics that make up what we call the athletic mindset. Now, we've learned over the last few months of turbulence, that these traits are the very traits that foster the resilience, adaptability and the growth needed, not to just navigate, but to thrive through these times. What are these characteristics and traits? Matt digs in, dissects, and tells stories about the athlete journey and, of course, the athlete mindset. You do not need to be an athlete to lean into the athletic mindset. We're discussing life here: how to thrive, how to rise up, how to grow in the challenge, how to improve your personal resilience, and how to optimize your health. So no matter what your sporting background, you're going to benefit from this episode on developing an athletic mindset.  Register for FREE Matt Dixon Webinar on Thursday, August 27th, 2020 Setting Up the Back Half of 2020 Training Purple Patch Coaching Resources Learn More about Purple Patch 1:1 Coaching Learn More about Purple Patch Squad Thanks for taking a listen and, if you like what you hear, please subscribe, share, rate and review. The Triathlete Hour

In ep. 9 of the Triathlete Hour, Sarah Piampiano opens up about the uncertainty she's facing as a "mature" athlete. This season was supposed to be her last season before she and her husband started a family. But now with all the uncertainty around racing: Does she wait? She's 40: Does she try and come back to racing after having a kid? How do you tackle these questions?Sarah also talks to us about how she almost quit the sport in 2018. But after months off to re-find her fire, she came back in 2019 and set the third fastest American women's Ironman time in history. After quitting smoking and a 100-hour/week job in finance, she dedicated herself to being the best triathlete she could be. Now what? And first, we chat about the big news: Ironman postpones Kona 2020 to Feb. 2021. What does this mean for athletes? How will next year play out?

WITSUP women in triathlon

I had completely forgotten just how many stories Sarah Piampiano and I have together - from the first time we met when she rocked up at my door to stay with us, to being pulled over by the police in Austria while we were riding. Between the laughs and the memories, things got very real when the topic of starting a family, retirement and an unknown future due to recent events came up in discussion.Be a part of Witsup and support us by becoming a member so that we can keep bringing you great content - www.patreon.com/witsup

87 The Power of Team with Sarah Piampiano and Chelsea Sodaro

Purple Patch Podcast

The theme of this episode is empowerment and the power of lifting each other up in support. The journey to elite success can be lonely and competitive, and there's a long-standing stereotype that elite female athletes can't work well together in this pursuit of excellence. Chelsea Sodaro and Sarah Piampiano are here to dispel those myths.  In fact, this Purple Patch duo insist that working together day after day is a driving factor in their individual success. The collective wins and the proof is not only in the fantastic race outcomes they've had this year, but also in their overall attitude and outlook on the sport. 242: Sarah Piampiano - IM Brazil winner, 2nd at IM Hamburg

Oxygen Addict Triathlon Podcast

Sarah Piampiano just finished 2nd at Ironman Hamburg with another amazing run - a 2.56 on a really hot day, which was only a couple of minutes down on the fastest male run times. We got this interview in the can just before the race. She set Ironman Brazil on fire with her win in 2019, when she delivered a 4.43 bike backed by a 2.53 marathon. To put this in context, her marathon was faster than the men's winner, and only 2 male pro's ran faster! We hear all about her background - from an overworked banker putting in 100 hour weeks, sleeping under her desk and smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day who entered her first triathlon as a bet! She talks honestly about the changes she's made over the last year to regain her love of the sport after feeling really burned out - we get some great insight into the nutritional changes she's made to stop 'restricting calories' and to start 'maximising nutritional value' from her food.As she says at the end of the interview - 'We only live once.' :)Show Sponsors:http://team.oxygenaddict.com - You can download a free copy of the Team Oxygenaddict Race Review Document here: http://bit.ly/racereviewdocument If you feel you’ve not had the race you deserved or expected this weekend- Coach Rob has a couple of free skype consultation slots available this week, where you can talk through your results with him.
