In this episode, Jerry and Jacobe talk to Eryk Anders. He competes in the Middleweight division of the UFC. Eryk is the national champion from Alabama. He shares his journey in his career and the sacrifices he had to make along the way. Episode Highlights: Eryk has a wife and 2 kids at home, and sometimes he doesn’t see them for 8 weeks. He comes home for a month or two, and then he is again back in his training camp for another fight. His career demands him to make sacrifices, but once this is all over and he retires, Eryk won’t have to sacrifice his family time anymore. The plethora of options available to him in the future, keeps him going and able to make the sacrifices that he is making now. His endgame is to be a stay-at-home Dad. In San Antonio, during high school, he had no idea about the recruitment process in the football team. He talks about the challenges that he faced during that time. Two weeks before the selection for Alabama’s team, a scholarship opened. Eryk received a call from the head football coach of Alabama. The person who knew Eryk vouched for him because of his hard work and dedication. Jacobe admires Eryk’s family because of the hard work and truthfulness that they all show. Eryk talks about the time when he was playing the biggest division in Texas football. Jerry stresses on the importance of maintaining a positive approach because you never know who is watching. During his school days, Eryk never wanted to be a regular person. All he wanted to do was play football and have a good time. While playing football, Eryk noticed his attitude and demeanor changed, and he was angry most of the time. Though Eryk had won the championship and had a college degree, he still struggled to get a job. After much struggle, he got the job as a cleaner. Eryk’s wife motivated him to quit his job and pursue full-time training in fighting. After 2 years, he got a call for his UFC debut. Jacobe says Eryk is a person who always works, but he is also someone whom one can trust. Jacobe is curious to know about Eryk’s mindset on things. Eryk talks about his fight in Brazil with Lyoto Machida and his toughest fights. Jacobe is curious to know how Eryk got into the real-estate game. Eryk’s wife taught him about financial independence. 3 Key Points: Eryk shares his view on what he thinks about when he hears about success without sacrifice. Jerry asks about the journey and transition for Eryk from high school to Alabama football. Eryk shares what inspired him to take up fighting as a career and the struggles to reach this level.
