1. Initial thoughts on Super Bowl LIV Me: -Opposite styles attract! Hal: Both teams have good offensive lines, especially at OT…and good DL too 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The 49ers ground game will be even more difficult for the Chiefs to stop than that of the Titans -The Chiefs wide receivers against the Niners DB’s is the biggest mismatch in favor of the Chiefs -Jimmy Garoppolo will have to throw for at least 250+ yards and 2 TD’s for the Niners to win -The Chiefs will have to allow less than 150 rushing yards for them to win -The 49ers will start the game throwing it over the yard with the Chiefs anticipating the run -Andy Reid should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day REGARDLESS of Sunday’s outcome -A Niners win means that Kyle Shanahan’s father Mike will be enshrined in Canton within the next five years 3. David and Hal’s picks of the Modern Era Finalists for the Pro Football HOF Class of 2020 -Troy Polamalu, Steve Atwater, John Lynch, LeRoy Butler, Edgerrin James, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne, Tony Boselli, Alan Faneca, Steve Hutchinson, Richard Seymour, Bryant Young, Sam Mills, Zach Thomas 4. 2019 NFL Awards AWARD DAVID’S CHOICE HAL’S CHOICE MVP Lamar Jackson Lamar Jackson Offensive POY Michael Thomas Christian McCaffrey Defensive POY Shaq Barrett Stephon Gilmore Offensive ROY Josh Jacobs Josh Jacobs Defensive ROY Nick Bosa Nick Bosa Comeback POY Ryan Tannehill Dalvin Cook Fantasy POY Christian McCaffrey Christian McCaffrey Breakout POY Courtland Sutton Shaq Barrett Most Improved POY Davante Parker Josh Allen Coach of the Year Kyle Shanahan Mike Vrabel Assistant Coach of the Year Greg Roman Dante Scarnecchia 5. Super Bowl LIV Analysis and Game Predictions -Key matchups: Nick Bosa vs. Eric Fisher, DeForest Buckner vs. Stefan Wisniewski -Rank these four potential deciding factors in order of importance for this game: Average starting field position, RZ efficiency, time of possession, turnovers -Predictions of final score, MVP, and unsung hero 6. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: Dee Ford strip-sacks Patrick Mahomes on the final drive of the game to seal the win for the Niners HAL: Chiefs defense is going to hold the 49ers offense to 60 rushing yards or less 7. Challenge Flags ME: Jimmy G…shut the haters up and show us who you really are HAL: Patrick Mahomes…this is the year of destiny for you. SEIZE IT!!!!!
#188: NFL 2019 Divisional Round Preview with Hal Bent
Sports Krunch w/DKROM
1. Wild Card Weekend Takeaways Me: The Kirk Cousins hate must stop NOW Hal: Redemption for Deshaun Watson and Kirk Cousins and emergence of the new guard (Titans) 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The NFL should modify its OT rules allowing each team to possess the ball in OT REGARDLESS of what happens on the first possession -The NFL must adjust the Rooney Rule by putting in a requirement that teams MUST interview at least one minority HC candidate from OUTSIDE your organization that has never previously been an NFL head coach -The winner of Saturday’s Vikings/49ers game will be the eventual NFC Champion -The Redskins must NOT trade the second overall pick unless they get an RG3-style king’s ransom (meaning firsts in 2020, 2021 AND 2022) in return -People should bet on the Vikings, Titans AND Texans to cover the spread this weekend 3. Coaching Carousel -Cowboys: Michael Lombardi said that while Mike McCarthy is the perfect fit for the Cowboys given the fact that McCarthy isn’t a guy that’s going to upstage Jerry Jones, he is “skeptical” whether or not McCarthy will bring the team successful long-term. Do you share that view? -Panthers: Do you think Matt Rhule will end up being the best hire of this cycle? -Giants: Thoughts on the Joe Judge hire? -Browns: (Assuming McDaniels decides not to go there If the Vikings lose), should they immediately pounce on Stefanski? If Niners lose, should they pounce on Saleh? 4. QB Carousel -If Josh McDaniels stays in New England, how much does that increase the likelihood Brady stays? If Brady is not a Patriot in 2020, where does he play? -What SHOULD the Saints do: Re-sign Brees? Re-sign Bridgewater? Re-sign Taysom Hill? 5. Divisional Round Weekend -Vikings at 49ers (Analysis, Game Picks) -Titans at Ravens (Analysis, Game Picks) -Texans at Chiefs (Analysis, Game Picks) -Seahawks at Packers (Analysis, Game Picks) 6. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: Dalvin Cook gets 200 scrimmage yards and 2 TD runs of 20+ yards HAL: NEITHER Desahun Watson and Patrick Mahomes throw 200 passing yards or a TD 7. Challenge Flags ME: Divisional round…be just as exciting as Wild Card HAL: Mike Zimmer and Mike Vrabel….DON’T TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS
1. Week 7 Takeaways Me: -Four weeks ago, virtually every analyst and prognosticator (myself included) was calling Kirk Cousins a wasted signing for the Vikings. Fast forward to now, he’s made us all look like IDIOTS!!! The last three weeks, Cousins has completed 75.6% of his passed for 976 yards, 10 TD and 1 INT. He also is now tied for the league lead in yards per pass attempt AND he became the ONLY QB in NFL history with at least three straight games of at least 300 passing yards and a QBR of 130.0 or better. Nothing makes me happier than when players prove us wrong…so BRAVO Kirk Cousins and keep it up!!! Hal: The re-emergence of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers passing attack. Is Kyle Allen the new Dak Prescott and Cam the new Romo? 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The Indianapolis Colts should be a team NOBODY wants to play going forward -Lamar Jackson has a strong case for NFL MVP through the first seven weeks -The Bears should bench Mitchell Trubisky for Chase Daniel if he lays another egg this weekend -The Eagles should send the Broncos their 2020 second-round pick for Chris Harris, Jr. -It will take 16 losses for the Dolphins to get the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft -The NFL should force a sale of the Denver Broncos in two years (if not sooner) if their ownership situation remains unresolved by then -If Patrick Mahomes is not 100% four or five weeks from now, he shouldn’t risk further injury and undergo season-ending surgery to get healthy for 2020 3. GAME OF THE WEEK: Panthers at 49ers -We all know how great the 49ers defense has been this season, but the Panthers bring a similar unit that should no longer be slept on. Just how good is this underrated Panthers defense? Given the 49ers injuries at OT, is this a golden opportunity for the Panthers to make a pretty big statement? -How should we expect the 49ers to utilize Emmanuel Sanders in this game? -Game deciding matchups: Sam Young/Daniel Brunskill versus Brian Burns, Matt Paradis/Trai Turner versus DeForest Buckner -Game Predictions 4. Waiver Wire: Gem or Garbage? -Mason Rudolph -DaeSean Hamilton -Mohamed Sanu -Ty Johnson -Irv Smith, Jr. -Jimmy Graham 5. Game Predictions -Redskins at Vikings -Chargers at Bears -Giants at Lions -Eagles at Bills -Broncos at Colts -Buccaneers at Titans -Jets at Jaguars -Bengals at Rams -Cardinals at Saints -Seahawks at Falcons -Browns at Patriots -Raiders at Texans -Packers at Chiefs -Dolphins at Steelers 6. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: Kirk Cousins throws for 400 yards, 7 TD’s and 0 INT HAL: Chase Edmonds runs for 200 yards and 2 TD’s 7. Challenge Flags ME: Seahawks, BE MORE AGGRESSIVE AND UNLEASH RUSSELL WILSON WHEN YOU NEED HIM THE MOST!!! HAL: Andy Reid…get the Chiefs right FAST as you wait for Mahomes to heal. Split these next four games
1. No pick in the 2019 NFL Draft was panned by the media more than the Giants selection of Daniel Jones at six overall. And this preseason, Jones has looked like a man on a mission to prove all the doubters wrong as through three games, he is 25/30 (83.3% completion rate), 369 yards, 2 TD’s and 0 INT. Eli Manning will begin the year under center, but if the Giants offense struggles badly the first two weeks, should Jones be starting in Week 3 or sooner? 2. Outside Saquon Barkley, no player on this Giants offense has more fantasy appeal than Evan Engram. Per Fantasy Football Calculator, his ADP is currently around 58 overall, slightly behind O.J. Howard. Would you be comfortable taking Engram as your starting TE at that juncture, or would you wait a round or two to take Jared Cook (72.2) or Vance McDonald (77.9)? 3. On paper, this Giants pass rush is one of the most uncertain units in the league. They are counting on second-year player Lorenzo Carter (a 2018 third-round pick) to supply the pressure off the edge and rookie NT Dexter Lawrence, who moves exceptionally smooth for a 342-lb. man, to supply pressure from the interior. Do you think the Giants pass rush can be a pleasant surprise in 2019…or is it a tall order? 4. The Redskins are in a very similar situation at QB as the Giants are. They selected a potential franchise QB in Dwayne Haskins at 15 overall, yet journeyman Case Keenum will be starting Week 1 against the Eagles. If Keenum fails to get anything going the first two weeks, should Haskins be starting in Week 3? 5. In the preseason dress rehearsal, Derrius Guice (74.3 ADP) showed he’s almost (or already) fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered last year. However, future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson (110.4 ADP) showed he still has more than enough juice left this preseason. Which Redskins RB would you prefer to own in fantasy…or would you avoid this backfield altogether? 6. This Redskins defensive front looks VERY promising. You have the ‘Bama boys on the DL in Jonathan Allen and Da’Ron Payne, both capable of stopping the run and getting after the QB. And coming off the edge, you have the underrated Pro Bowl vet Ryan Kerrigan and freakish athletic rookie Montez Sweat. But the back end leaves much to be desired as Reuben Foster will miss the entire season with a torn ACL and the secondary is a mess outside of Landon Collins. Can this Washington front four be elite more often than not this season in order to mask the deficiencies they have at LB and DB? 7. With Carson Wentz more than a full year removed from that multi-ligament knee injury he suffered in his MVP-like 2017 season, is it reasonable to expect him to play close to that 2017 level this season if health permits? 8. The Eagles have a crowded backfield, but rookie Miles Sanders has been the star of training camp. His current ADP is 54.4 per FFC. Would you be comfortable taking Sanders at that spot as the third or fourth RB on your roster in a 10-team league? 9. This offseason, the Eagles parted ways with Michael Bennett via trade and Chris Long retired. The two accounted for 15.5 of the Eagles 44 sacks last season and had 121 of the teams 337 total QB pressures, per PFF. How do you see the Eagles replacing not only that production, but that efficiency as well? 10. This is like a “now or never” year for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott is on the final year of his rookie deal and the Cowboys have assembled one of the league’s most talented rosters. Jerry Jones is also 76 years old and Jason Garrett is also in the final year of his contract. Would you consider anything less than an image of the Cowboys hoisting that Lombardi Trophy at Hard Rock Stadium in February a failure? Who should the Cowboys pay first: Dak Prescott or Ezekiel Elliott?
Is Rob Gronkowski going to come back out of retirement? Does Sam Darnold have the supporting cast he needs for a breakout season? Is Brian Flores the right guy for the Dolphins? How good is this Bills defense? Our right-hand man Hal Bent joined us to answer these questions and a lot more about the 2019 AFC East!! Lots of great fantasy advice in here too!!!!
#143 NFL Week 7 Preview (2018) w/ Hal Bent, of FullPressCoverage.com
Sports Krunch w/DKROM
Every single week of this 2018 NFL season has consisted of more heart-palpitating finishes to start a season than I can remember. We have had games go to OT every single week, and even though this Week 7 slate of games doesn’t look quite as delicious as those of previous weeks, we should expect even more near-heart attacks this week and for the rest of the season.Hal’s Twitter handle: @halbent011. Week 6 Takeaways -Buffalo Bills….talk about an historical difference between offense/defense. Per Football Outsiders, the Bills defense is third best in total DVOA, but their offense is the second worst ever through six games in total DVOA behind only the 2004 Miami Dolphins -All the Patrick Mahomes doubters/haters can zip it2. Truth/Exaggeration -The era of dominant NFL defenses is over -Despite the Bears heartbreaking loss last week, their fans should be very optimistic about Mitchell Trubisky going forward -The Los Angeles Chargers are a serious threat to win the AFC West…and the AFC -The Minnesota Vikings are the current favorites to win the NFC North 3. Saints/Ravens -The Ravens have had Drew Brees number during his career as a Saint (Brees is 0-3 against Baltimore in that capacity). The Saints enter this game third in total offense, and the Ravens number one in total defense. How well does this Ravens D match up with the Saints? How is this Saints offense better equipped to attack such a physical defense compared to years past?-This game can turn out a lot of different ways. Do you expect a high-scoring affair, a low-scoring defensive struggle, or something in between?-Game-deciding matchup?-Prediction4. Bengals/Chiefs -Who should be the key focal point of the Bengals offense in this game: Andy Dalton and the passing game, or Joe Mixon and the running game? -Geno Atkins has been absolutely outstanding this season and the Chiefs interior OL is decimated by injury headed into this game. How possible or likely is it that this mismatch can be the big difference between a win and loss for the Chiefs? -Game-deciding matchup -Prediction5. SET MY LINEUPRaj Chandra (non-PPR) -QB: Mahomes, Bortles -RB: Elliott, Hunt, Freeman, Crowell, Ito Smith -WR: Gordon, Gabriel, Marvin Jones, Davante Adams (on BYE) -TE: Howard, Reed -Flex: 6. Rapid Fire Predictions -Broncos/Cardinals -Titans/Chargers -Patriots/Bears -Lions/Dolphins -Vikings/Jets -Bills/Colts -Texans/Jaguars -Browns/Buccaneers -Panthers/Eagles -Cowboys/Redskins -Rams/49ers -Giants/Falcons 7. Week 7 Bold Predictions -Me: The Broncos will yield another 200-yard rusher as David Johnson sets the single-game rushing yardage record tomorrow night!!! -Hal: Brees throws for less than 150 yards8. Challenge Flags -Me: Matt Nagy…keep the ship steady -Hal: Mike Vrabel…toughen up the Titans and make it a game against the ChargersThank you Hal…and that’s it for today here on Sports Krunch, but we’ll be back next week for Week 8…so stay tuned! It’s hard to believe…but we’re already one quarter of the way through the 2018 NFL season. And Week 4 gave us some amazing performances. Career games for Jared Goff and Mitchell Trubisky, an impressive debut and “coming of age” game for Patrick Mahomes, three OT games plus two last-second finishes in regulation were a fitting conclusion to the first month of the season…and what we saw this past week is likely just a preview of what awaits us these next 13 weeks. And the journey begins tonight with the beginning of Week 5…and it’s a pleasure to bring back my right-hand man Hal Bent of FullPressCoverage.com to help us preview what should be another exciting weekend of NFL action. Hal’s Twitter handle: @halbent011. Week 4 Takeaways -I owe the Jaguars AND Titans an apology -Doug Pederson has revolutionized the game for the better2. Week 2 of the 2017 NFL season kicked off Thursday night with the Texans knocking off the Bengals 13-9 in a game that was infinitely more boring than the score indicates.
