The PorchCast Ep 70 | Drew Watson – Hops & Pie 10th Anniversary

The PorchCast – PorchDrinking.com

In episode 70 of the PorchCast, we welcomed Drew Watson, co-founder of Hops & Pie and Berkeley Donuts in Denver to talk a little about how the iconic beer bar and pizza spot got started as well as what they have planned for this weekend’s 10th-anniversary celebration. In addition to recording our audio edition, we also broadcasted live via Facebook Live once again and were joined by producer, Bryant James Vander Weerd and co-hosts Tristan Chan, and Korey David. In addition to talking about Hops & Pie, the gang also touched on some current event news regarding Yuengling’s investment and expansion from Molson Coors, Surly Brewing’s employees trying to unionize, the Brewers Associations misstep in diversity & inclusion as well as some of our favorite Märzens this season. Hops & Pie’s 10th Anniversary Festivities are taking place this Saturday, Oct 3rd. It’ll feature several exciting tappings, an opportunity to buy a beer for a year card, as well as a number of other giveaways. For the occasion, the Hops & Pie team also collaborated with several breweries on commemorative 10th-anniversary beers. Here’s the list: Call to Arms’ 3653 Days (a nod to 10 years + 3 days since they’ve opened) of Delicious Monotony is a Russian imperial milk stout aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels with cacao nibs at 10.3% ABV. Casey Brewing & Blending’s 10th Anniversary Blend is a blend of Casey’s Funky Blender and an experimental Grisette. Hops & Pie will also be pouring Casey’s East Bank and Bourbon East Bank. Westbound & Down’s Hops & Pie anniversary beer is a 50/50 blend of one and two-year-old golden sours aged in American oak wine barrels from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, which racked over 800 pounds of red raspberries. The one-year-old endlessly drinkable beer provides a bitterness to balance the acidity inherent in the pounds of red raspberries with soft American oak vanillins, seeds, and overripe stone fruit funk. Cannonball’s Another Hops & Pie 10th Anniversary IPA is a heavily tropical Modern American/West Coast IPA with a little dank from the enigma and a very light malt body from the North American pilsner malt. It has a moderate hop bitterness with a very dry finish at 7% ABV. Comrade’s 10th Anniversary double IPA is a double IPA with Southern hemisphere hops, including Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, and Galaxy hops. Specialty Beers On Tap: Toppling Goliath Brewing Company’s Mornin’ Delight Weldwerks Brewing single barrel coconut imperial stout, aged 19 months in a Laws Whiskey’ Four Grain Bourbon Barrel and made with >150 pounds of coconut Cerebral Brewing’s Barrel-Aged Work From Home Imperial Stout and Here be Monsters Imperial Stout Fremont Brewing’s 11th Anniversary Almanac Beer Company’s Libra Charm Crooked Stave’s Persica Special thanks to our new show sponsor Molly’s Spirits! For all of our Denver listeners or anyone visiting Denver, explore a land of adult beverage discovery at Molly’s Spirits, offering a curated selection of beers, wines, and spirits in Lakeside and Greenwood Village, Colorado. Season 2, Episode 2: Pre-Covid Tomfoolery with Drew Watson, Founder of Hops N Pie/ Berkeley Donuts

Stoned Appetit

On this week’s episode, we throw it back to an episode we did back in March, with Drew Watson, Founder of @hopsandpiedenver and @berkeleydonuts…We recorded this right as there were launching the Berkeley Donut concept, and we hadn’t released it cuz the world ended the following week.. Anyways, we talk to Drew about how he & Leah opened up Hops N Pie after tiring out of the fine-dining scene in Cali.. and after all that positive talk promoting the restaurant, Kip railroaded the episode by hijacking conversations and making it all about nostalgic movies. If you like Ace Ventura, Waynes World, Dumb & Dumber and those type flicks… THEN THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU! Don’t forget @berkeleydonuts open Wed-Sun, from 7 to sell out. GET OVER THERE!!!
