Ep116: David Simon

Listing Agent Lifestyle - Real Estate Marketing

Today on the Listing Agent Lifestyle podcast, we're talking with David Simon from Bergen County, New Jersey. David's been a long time resident of Bergen County. His family ran a hardware business for 70 years there, so he has a lot of roots that he used to start as a real estate investor, buying and flipping homes, and then into becoming a real estate agent. Both he and his wife practice real estate. They work in both commercial and residential, but today we focused on building up the residential side of their business, and the two main things to create a game plan for 2020. Most of his business comes from referrals, so we talked about how to shore that up and build up the number of people in his database, his top 150, the list of people that he's communicating with, and shoot for the 20% return on relationships we talked about. Then we talked about Getting Listings and went through a real analysis of how to pick the right area within Bergen County, and what the implications of that could be over the next two years. So this is a really great episode if you're focused on increasing the number of referrals you get or looking at getting more listings from a particular area. David Simon (2014) | Some People Are More Equal Than Others

Festival of Dangerous Ideas

Society preaches forgiveness for the rich and retribution for the poor. Entrenched inequality and its companion, poverty, are the dark side of the American dream for a citizenry united by name, but not by rules. Is the divide fair, the result of natural winners and losers, or is it built into the system? We know that inequality is bad for the rich as well as the poor, and that more equal countries are healthier and happier, but this knowledge won't bring change by itself. What can be done when those with the power to change the divide are those that benefit most from it? As long as the more equal won't let go, the less equal will suffer. David Simon is a journalist, author, and television writer/producer best known as the creator and showrunner of HBO series The Wire and Treme. He spent twelve years on the crime beat for the Baltimore Sun. He also worked on the adaptations of his books Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood for NBC and HBO respectively.

HBO’s The Plot Against America with David Simon and cast

92Y Talks

HBO’s The Plot Against America with David Simon, Zoe Kazan, Winona Ryder, Morgan Spector and John Turturro Simon and cast members will sit for a conversation after a screening of the first hour of the six-part miniseries, which premiered on March 16. The conversation is moderated by NPR’s Peter Sagal. Set in 1940s New Jersey, The Plot Against America imagines an alternate American history in which the aviation hero beats F.D.R., reaches a neutrality agreement with Hitler, and leads a government program of gradually escalating anti-Semitism. At the heart of the story are Bess and Herman Levin, two young parents grappling with what Roth called “the terror of the unforeseen” and striving to protect their sons from an increasingly hostile environment that threatens to rupture their family, their community and their country.

Bonus episode: David Simon

The Takeout

David Simon's latest HBO miniseries "The Plot Against America" explores a historical what-if. What if famed aviator Charles Lindbergh became president? It tells the story through a Jewish family from New Jersey, fearful of Lindbergh's "America First" rhetoric and xenophobic tendencies in the early 1940s. Simon began his career as a police reporter with the Baltimore Sun and may be best known for creating "The Wire," widely considered one of the best television shows ever made.
