My Conversation With Philly D.A. Larry Krasner

I’m FIRED UP to welcome Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner into the #LionsDen to answer the hard questions surrounding the pandemic 😷, the protests 🔥, the police 👮, and many other hot-button topics in this FULL 52-minute interview.

Some people say that DA Krasner is a polarizing figure in politics, and many people in the past 24 hours asked why I would bring Larry Krasner on the Den. I believe that everyone deserves a fair opportunity to tell their story, and we need to see both sides of the fence if we’re ever going to make real change in this city and across the country.

At the end of the day, the decisions of our elected officials impact our businesses and their voices need to be heard -  regardless of which side you’re on.

I want to thank DA Krasner and the District Attorney’s Office for taking the time to speak to me and hope we can all work together to make changes to the system. #LFG

This is the second part of a series here on KYW In Depth taking a look at gun violence in Philadelphia during the coronavirus pandemic. It's based off of a model used in Chicago that resulted in a decrease in shootings and homicides. For this episode, District Attorney Krasner joins KYW In Depth to talk about the plan, how it should work, and why he thinks a community based approach is the answer to the gun violence crisis.

Everyday Injustice Podcast Episode 39 - Larry Krasner and the Progressive Prosecution Movement

In 2017, Larry Krasner, a lifelong defense and civil rights attorney stunned the world by winning election to DA of Philadelphia and in so doing transformed the criminal justice system not only in his own city, but launched a movement across the country for progressive reform.

He has seen tremendous progress but also seen the system attempt to push back against these changes.

Listen as he talks about his two years in Philadelphia. He told Everyday Injustice that one of the biggest problems in the criminal justice system is that it doesn't account for people changing. As Bryan Stephenson has said, each of us is “more than the worst thing we’ve done” and we have a tremendous capacity for change - something that the current system doesn't take into account enough.

Ending Mass Incarceration with Larry Krasner

Have you heard about Larry Krasner? He’s a lefty progressive lawyer in Philadelphia that made his name by defending the underdogs, representing activists and suing police officers. Last year, he was elected as Philadelphia’s District Attorney, meaning he now runs the mass incarceration machine he’s spent his decades-long career criticizing. He might be the last person in the world you would expect to be the chief prosecutor for the city of Philadelphia, but if you truly want to see criminal justice reform what better place to start? People looking at the growth of mass incarceration are increasingly focusing on the key role that prosecutors play, and in just six months Krasner has already radically changed that role. Chris Hayes got a chance to talk to Larry Krasner about “storming the palace doors”.

Pushback — Episode 7: Larry Krasner’s Revelations

Larry Krasner, the Democratic nominee for district attorney of Philadelphia, has a higher profile today than he’s ever had. The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Nation are just a handful of the national media outlets that have profiled the longtime criminal defense attorney who has sued the City of Philadelphia and its police department more than 70 times. Despite the coverage, who Krasner is and what informs his unique brand of justice — the backstory of an unlikely political heavyweight, should he prevail on November 7th general election — has largely flown under the radar. At least until now. In the latest episode of Pushback, Krasner is profiled in his most human form. (He showed up wearing A Tribe Called Quest–inspired socks).
