Sam Pink is the author of several novels and poetry collections, including Witch Piss, Person, and Garbage Times, as well as a painter and multimedia artist. We chopped it up over the phone about doing things just to do them, the spirit of art, being honest, and also being whatever. You can find him on Twitter @sampinkisalive and IG @sam_pink_art. Books and paintings are available directly from him. The essay discussed at one point in the episode can be found on Neutral Spaces.
Sam Pink is an American author, novelist, artist, and poet. Pink has authored books such as Person, The Ice Cream Man & Other Stories, The No Hellos Diet, Hurt Others, Rontel, Witch Piss, and The Garbage Times/White Ibis. His writing has been published widely in print and on the Internet and translated into other languages. He currently lives in Michigan and sells paintings from Instagram under `sam_pink_art`, and also I guess doing Podcasts called "Yung Flamingo Club." In this episode we talk about people living in the forest for decades to only leave behind a mysterious photo, FedEx-Kinkos, and how Sam Pink would eliminate Tom Clancy completely. We also talk about what Sam Pink would suggest someone who walked into a bookstore for the first time and asked Pink for a recommendation. This episode catches a lot of heat the second half, so you'll want to listen to it in its entirety. Sam Pink was one of our most interesting and funny guests yet. I’ve since read all his shit. I contacted him earlier this month about getting at one of his paintings, and our subsequent correspondence led to this pod. V psyched and grateful to Sam for being such a G, and for continuing to slang this fire art.#CONTENTS3 min - pod start4 min - We out here. Sam Pink is the author of several books of fiction and poetry, including the No Hello's Diet, The Garbage Times/White Ibis The Icecream Man and Other Stories and many more. I find his writing to be funny, direct, and wholly compassionate. There is a quality to his work that makes him, in my opinion, one of the greatest American writers working today. Our talk rages from talking about editing, community, his visual art and more, but I think what comes across most strongly is that his writing is exactly that, his writing. You can contact the show at firstname.lastname@example.org - Just put WTR in the subject line.Contact for Sam PinkBooksNeutral SpacesInstagramTwitterContact for Joe bieleckiTwitter and Instagram: @noisemakerjoeWebsiteOne time donationPatreonArt photo by Arielle Tipa
