009 - Joel Flores - Race and Justice 2

Lost and Found Podcast

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.  But how do we get from the starless midnight we seem to be in to bright daybreak where people of all ethnicities, all languages, all colours live together in respect, care and love for one another?  My guest today is a dear friend who represents a visible minority, a man with brown skin who has lived in both United States and Canada.  He knows what racial discrimination looks like, but he is not a victim.  So pull up a chair and sit with us as my good friend, Joel Flores and I talk about race issues and what we can do to lift the veil of darkness and step into a brighter day.Support the show (https://lostandfoundpodcast.ca/donate)

Former Action Guys Podcast

Sgt Joel Flores was a Radio Operator in the United States Marine Corps and is now serving his community as a police officer in Colorado. While in the Marine Corps, Joel participated in providing humanitarian assistance for the citizens of Haiti after the island was struck by a devastating earthquake in 2009. We also discuss Joel's transition from the military and he details his experience attending the Denver Sheriff Training Academy and what it was like to work in the jail system. Finally, we discuss Joel moving from the Denver Sheriff's Office to working in the private sector before ultimately joining the local police department. Joel was a solid Marine that I personally worked with and he's great dude.
