Introductory note on Michael Faraday (Volume 30, Harvard Classics)
Two sticks, a table, and a pail were the commonplace implements used by Michael Faraday to demonstrate great scientific truths. (Volume 30, Harvard Classics)
Faraday sends "Experimental Researches" to Royal Society, Nov. 6, 1845.
The ability to connect to the world through video, audio, satellite started with Michael Faraday. The engine, the motor, the transformer are thanks to Michael Faraday. But, his extraordinary genius isn't even what makes him my favorite!
Whether you are interested in sciences or not, I believe that it's important for everyone to know a little bit about the man who found fundamental connections between electricity, magnetism, light and gravity.
I want to tell you about his accomplishments, his genius and his admirable qualities, along with exactly what makes him my favorite scientist: the fact that he was a man of faith, his battle with mental illness and that he came from poverty to become the most celebrated scientist of his time.
I love picking favorites. Lucky for me, it's a great way of learning about people who made an impact on humankind and being inspired by their journey.

What is the first name that comes to mind with the mention of electricity? Thomas Edison? Nikola Tesla? Perhaps even Benjamin Franklin. Yet Michael Faraday has every right to belong on that list, too, as it's impossible to imagine a world without his contributions to science.
From chemistry to electricity, from theoretical science to practical experiments that revolutionized the world, Faraday's contributions can't be overstated. And there's more to the story than just success; it's also a poignant tale of how anyone — regardless of their background, their education, or their upbringing — can make a real impact.
In this Episode of MostlyScience, Wes is joined by Dr. Anna of Dr. Anna's Imaginarium and Holly Blunden of MostlyScience to celebrate science as we pass the anniversary of the March for Science. We share some of our favourite science stories and talk a little about our journey through STEM.
