Pioneers in the energy tech space are challenging the upstream market to modernize through advancements in technologies. Compared to other major sectors of the economy, the oil & gas industry is laggard in its adoption of technology, with huge opportunities for automation and connectivity waiting on the sidelines.

Those early to enter with oil & gas technologies are paving the way for others to follow, working on creating a change in culture that is receptive to technological integrations. The biggest challenges these leaders face are siloed data systems, antiquated filing/storage practices, and cultural resistance to change.

In this podcast, guest-host Evan Anderson CEO of Oseberg joins the show as we sit down with David Foresberg, venture capitalist and Managing Partner of Ascent Energy Ventures to discuss their outlook on the energy tech space. These two powerhouses are at the forefront of technological adoption in the upstream market, and share their insights into the future of technology in O&G and their journey through the space.

Evan Anderson, CEO & Board Member, Luma Therapeutics

Evan Anderson, CEO and Board Member of Luma Therapeutics, has 17 years of experience in early stage product and market development. He completed the Stanford Biodesign Fellowship in 2004 and was first manager of R&D and then distribution sales at Spiracur (acquired by Acelity).

From the Luma Therapeutics website:

We are a medical device company developing light therapies for the 40 million people in the US with inflammatory skin disorders. Luma Therapeutics was born when our CEO Evan Anderson found that he had psoriasis and discovered a way to treat himself effectively. He knew then that he wanted to develop similar treatments for the millions of other people suffering from skin disorders.

We work hard every day to help people get clear skin with easy to use, affordable therapies.

Our goal is to develop an at home treatment that will put psoriasis in remission for an extended period of time after only a few weeks of therapy.

Oil and Gas Data with Evan Anderson

Public data is not always so accessible. It is nice when you can request data simply by making an API call, but that is the exception rather than the rule–especially when we are talking about data managed by the government. Oil and gas drilling data falls into this category.

Oseberg is a company that is building a tool for analyzing oil and gas data. Oseberg is a rich dashboard for knowledge workers to query and visualize the data. Evan Anderson is the CEO of Oseberg, and he joins me to discuss building a business where the data is hard to acquire.
