Content Is Still King And Here’s Why With Joe Pulizzi

Dominate Your Market

Do you know how to deliver quality content to our audience? Many businesses try their hand at content creation but fail. The majority of errors are caused by a need for more understanding of the tactics required for success. You can deliver high-quality content by producing content relevant to your company's area of expertise and aiming it at the right audience. Tune in Dominate Your Market Podcast as Joe Pulizzi shares how businesses should create content to maximize their company's growth. He will also talk about the common mistakes in creating content and the things you should be aware of. Summary: Creating content online is critical for the company's growth in today's business world. Unfortunately, some companies are still not doing it, and some are doing it poorly. Discover how you can leverage your company by making content using the right strategy. Joe Pulizzi, founder of multiple startups, content entrepreneur, and the best-selling author of seven books is aware of the strategies for maximizing business growth through content creation. Many businesses still need to figure out how they will succeed, though. Thus, now is the time to know how to make content uniquely and accurately target your audience. Quotes: “Creating content is a marathon, not a sprint. And most people quit for two reasons: First, they don't have any differentiation. Second is they don’t have consistency.” “Have the positioning in your content strategy that tomorrow, social media will be gone altogether. And if you do that, you're going to be okay.” “Start making a list of the podcasters or the bloggers of the newsletter writers targeting the same audience, as those people are doing something right. You’re all on the same team, and there's a lot of opportunity there.” “The OG content marketing goal was always around loyalty.” “You want to get as focused on a niche as possible. So that when you create content for your target audience with that content niche, you can be the leading expert in that area.” Takeaway: A great media company consistently delivers over time. Content marketing never stops; it is a marathon. And most businesses have never used this muscle before. Less content is preferable. Kill off seven or eight of the things you're doing that do not affect your clients or potential clients. Kill that so you can redirect those resources to one or two other projects and excel. You are allowed to use rented land, but remember that the rules could change tomorrow. Have a way for people to always return to something under your control. Find out who the expert is within your company because having an internal resource is crucial. A lot of this can be delegated to writers and editors, but you still need internal champions for the project. When starting any content marketing initiative, there are two components to the sweet spot. One is, what is your company's area of expertise that you can use to develop content? The second is who's the audience you're targeting? Ep. 24: Joe Pulizzi - MA in Rhetoric Turned Content Marketing Leader & Serial Entrepreneur

The Work Seminar

Before Joe founded and sold Content Marketing Institute, wrote six books, and returned to entrepreneurship with The Tilt, he exemplified the liberal arts stereotype: a master’s in hand and uncertainty ahead.  After earning his MA, Joe decided against a PhD and opted instead to find work in internal communications. But that plan hit a snag when hiring managers balked at his lack of experience. He turned to temping, and six months later landed a full-time role that blossomed into a career in marketing and communications. Joe’s known for positive attitude, lifelong learning, and commitment to goal setting (and achievement). Those traits helped him reach a VP spot in the media industry and then pivot to build two successful, education-focused companies.  And, of course, Joe’s grad school days spent mastering the art of ethical persuasion, coupled with exploring his passions and strengths while a student, played no small role in his career achievements. Joe’s Books & Other Resources The Will to Die, Joe’s debut mystery and thriller novelContent Inc. Epic Content MarketingKilling Marketing, co-written with Robert Rose Content Inc. podcastThis Old Marketing podcast with co-host Robert RoseWhere to find Joe & The Tilt@JoePulizzi on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebookthetilt.comCheck out more from The Work SeminarVisit theworkseminar.com or find @TheWorkSeminar on social media. Sign up for The Work Seminar newsletter to receive updates straight to your inbox.Support the show

Content Entrepreneurs and the Creator Economy with Joe Pulizzi

The Business Of Marketing

In this episode, Joe Pulizzi and A. Lee Judge discuss all things content marketing.Learn how Joe Pulizzi has evolved on his content marketing journey. In this episode of the Business of Marketing podcast, Joe Pulizzi and I discuss the meaning of the Content Entrepreneur,  Joe's businesses - the Tilt and the Content Marketing Institute, and his upcoming event - the Creator Economy Expo.Conversation points:Briefly share with us, your journey in and out of the Content Marketing Institute, your books, and where you are today. In 2017, I was a B2B Marketing Director by day. By night and for the previous years since high school, I loved creating media. From video, to audio, to written content.I never considered bringing those two worlds together until people like Gary Vaynerchuck and Yourself Joe, began to explain how valuable non-advertising content was to business. As a result, I launched Content Monsta, my content production agency. Then in 2018, I went to Content Marketing World and thought “I’ve found my tribe!” And I’ve spoken there every year since. So, speaking of “Tribe” Joe, you built an amazingly connected community through that event. Is there any secret sauce to building a community like that? You mentioned in your email this morning a conversation with our friend Mark Schaefer regarding “Audience vs Community”.Last fall I had to honor of hanging out with you and your wonderful wife Pam after Content Marketing World, and you introduced me to the term “Content Entrepreneur".Once again Joe, you delivered a term that gave me clarity to what I was already doing. So, please expand on what you mean by Content Entrepreneur.I want to be sure to mention that you have a research paper on Content Entrepreneurs.Linked here, but also tell us where that research can be found. In that research on Content Entrepreneurs, were there any surprises to you? Or things that might surprise many? Joe, you’ve been so focused on Content Marketing for a while now, long enough to see some evolution. What have you seen change in regard to the forms of content being produced and perhaps have become more (or less) effective for business purposes? You have several podcasts that you are a part of. What do you say to businesses that are just now considering podcasting? Now Joe, let’s get into your latest ventures. And if it sounds like I’m giving Joe the floor to do an all-out promotion… I am. And I’ll tell you why.Because behind all of this business, I know that Joe’s a great human being, plus he gives so much, that I want to do my part to return the blessings in his direction. So Joe, I want to know about the Tilt, the Tilt Coin, AND how you’re using Tilt coin for your new event - the Creator Economy Expo. A. Lee Judge is the host of The Business of Marketing podcast. Please follow the podcast on your favorite podcast listening platform. This podcast is produced by Content Monsta - A leading producer of B2B Content.

What is the Link Between the Creator Economy and Content Marketing? [Joe Pulizzi Interview]

Your Digital Marketing Coach with Neal Schaffer

I talked about my perspective on the Creator Economy with its relationship to influencer marketing on episode 241 literally 10 episodes ago, but seeing how it is a trending buzzword these days, I wanted to invite on an old friend to give us his perspective, as he is literally launching the first event around the Creator Economy called the Creator Economy Expo (go here for a $150 discount: https://nealschaffer.com/cex)And this guest, Joe Pulizzi, founder of Content Marketing World, knows something both about content marketing and launching and running successful events.Listen in to learn Joe's perspective on where things have gone with content marketing and where they are heading with the Creator Economy. We covered a LOT of ground on this podcast, even touching upon the metaverse / Web 3.0 and NFTs.If you want to understand the future of social media marketing, you'll want to listen to the end!Key Highlights [01:29] Introduction of Podcast Guest, Joe Pulizzi[04:19] Evolution From Content Marketing to Creator Economy[08:27] What is Creator Economy Expo?[09:42] Why Content Creators Shouldn't Be So Focused on Social Platforms[12:11] What is a Content Creator?[13:45] Why Creator Economy Expo Was Created[15:16] The Ultimate of Creator Economy[18:47] You Need to Build Audience First![20:04] The Best Way to Generate Revenue[22:54] Focus On One Platform and Master It[25:50] Tilt Niching Vs Tilt Differentiation[29:17] The Mission Of Creator EconomyNotable QuotesAnd really, when it comes down to my take may be versus a lot of different people is I don't like what's going on with content creators being so focused on social platforms, when those social platforms then make the changes as they always do.What I found over COVID was what was old is new again. The core really is to be content entrepreneur. You had a lot of great things that are happening. And I don't want people to miss that. So my recommendation is let's experiment. Let's see. But this is really something new that can move content creators from being totally dependent on social platforms.Look at the ones that aren't, the ones that are successful, already have an audience and get this, they usually have a pretty good email list.LLet's get rid of some of this stuff. Let's focus on being great at one or two things instead of just throwing your content all over everywhere. What are the two biggest problems with companies that try to build an audience, one is they don't have a content till they don't have a true differentiation area. And the second is they don't deliver consistently over a long period of time.Guest Links:The Tilt: https://www.thetilt.com/Connect with Joe on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joepulizzi/Creator Economy Expo: https://nealschaffer..com/cexLearn More: Join My Digital First Mastermind: https://nealschaffer.com/membership/ Learn about My Fractional CMO Consulting Services: https://nealschaffer.com/cmo Download My Free Ebooks Here: https://nealschaffer.com/freebies/ Subscribe to my YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/nealschaffer All My Podcast Show Notes: https://podcast.nealschaffer.com
