Back in May I was fortunate enough to interview Rand Fishkin on this podcast. When I first heard about SEO, Rand and Moz were my initial go-tos for all things SEO. I know this is the case for a lot of marketers who entered the industry in the last decade and a half.
The same can be said for today's guest, Joe Pulizzi, in respect to content marketing.
Joe Pulizzi is the Founder of the Content Marketing Institute and coined the phrase 'content marketing'. He spent 11 years at Content Marketing Institute, selling the company in 2016.
So what's Joe been doing since 2016? We explore what Joe has been focusing on over the last few years in the podcast as I look to uncover what it is that keeps him in love with content marketing.
In today's episode we explore:
I loved speaking with Joe. His enthusiasm for content and creativity came through in our discussion and his energy was exactly the same when we weren't recording. I'm grateful that Joe gave us his time and I'm so happy that after all these years we finally get to bring one of the true pioneers of modern marketing to the podcast.

There's no need to sugarcoat it: things looks grim. The COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has exacted a brutal price in lives, public health and global economic activity, and there's little respite in sight.
But with a likely recession setting in, those of us fortunate enough to still have jobs in marketing and communications are looking for ways to do more with less.
Enter Joe Pulizzi. In the midst of the last recession, his fledgling company changed marketing forever, rebranding the notion of "Content Marketing" and forging a media empire. From the ashes of the Great Recession, he raised the Content Marketing Institute, three best-selling books and “This Old Marketing” the Podcast.
In this edition of Lead Balloon, Pulizzi shares his tale, as well as advice for communications professionals hoping to weather the storm.

On today's episode, Adam sits down with Joe Pulizzi to discuss his debut novel The Will To Die. Joe is an icon in the world of Marketing and someone we've long known about as the creator of the Content Marketing Institute and Content Marketing World and so getting to sit down with him was an honor. Adam and Joe discuss they're Northeast Ohio roots, connecting content marketing to writing, and his unique background working in funeral homes. This was such a blast to record.
Recording Note: This was recorded back in February before Covid-19 created a need for social distancing.
