The Junia Project - Kate Wallace Nunneley

More Than Sunday

For most of the Church's history, certain passages in the Bible have been cited to justify the exclusion of women from leadership in the Church. While some denominations, including Methodism, have recognized the gifts of women for ministry, many still have not taken this important step. This reality has been a catalyst for Kate Wallace Nunneley since she was 14 years old. She has since turned her passion for inclusion of women in Church leadership into the Junia Project - a volunteer community of women and men that believes that the Bible teaches that both men and women are called to serve at all levels of the Church, and that leadership should be based primarily on gifting and not on gender. She joins us today to make a compelling case for this belief, and illuminate what much of the Church is missing by not embracing it. Hope in the Desert of Lent - Pastor Kate Wallace Nunneley (3-10-19)

Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara

Our speaker on Sunday is Kate Wallace Nunneley, whom we invited to come preach because she is also our speaker for the Women's Retreat. We are so glad she agreed to stay an extra day! Kate is the Lead Pastor of Wellspring Free Methodist Church in Bakersfield, CA. She is also the co-founder of The Junia Project, a volunteer community which advocates for the inclusion of women in leadership in the church, as well as mutuality in marriage. She and her husband Leif have two dogs and a full life! Kate is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University and holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics. Currently, she is pursuing a Masters of Divinity from APU. For this Sunday, we will be stepping out of the book of Mark and into the book of Luke, who records an instructive account of Jesus' temptation. A helpful thing to do when we come to the end of something, is to look back to the beginning. We are now at the end of Jesus' ministry. He is coming into the time of His death. We have already begun the journey to the cross, both in the season and in our study. As we step into this 40 day season of Lent, we will go back to remember Jesus' 40 days in the desert. As we do, we want to focus on the hope that carried Him through the hardship of temptation. We pray that He would give us what we need for the Lenten deserts we face. - Pastor Colleen

Ep. 27 - Gender Roles & Scripture (Pt II) - Kate Wallace Nunneley

The Laity Podcast

We're excited to share this recent conversation with Kate Wallace Nunneley, continuing the discussion on gender roles, the Bible, and women in the Church. Kate gives us some great insight into The Junia Project, her perspective and experience as a female pastor, and terms like "Christian feminism" and "egalitarianism." We dive into some of Paul's New Testament language around "headship," "women remaining silent," "not permitting women to teach," how this sits in an egalitarian vs. complementation framework, and much more. Hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did! Follow Kate on Twitter @KateWallace1313 and check out The Junia Project here!
