Entry 2 – Louis Cayer – how he works with players

Episode 1 went down a storm so as promised here we have part 2 of the Louis Cayer interview.

In this show we go into more specific details on player and coach development. Louis shares his wisdom, thoughts and experience on the wide range of topics. We start by hearing how Louis prepares to work with a new player. We then discuss what things are visible in a potential performer and how to test the values of a player, how personality clashes does not mean players cannot work together and still have success at the very highest end of the game, and the priorities for developing young performers and what skills should be focused on. Louis addresses the perception that great singles players don't play doubles and talks about the trend of top singles players becoming injured and the importance of having healthy development plans for younger players. Lastly, Louis shares what he would like to see prioritised in coach education in the UK.

Entry 1 – Louis Cayer – his journey through coaching

Welcome to my first podcast!

I figure that if you're going to be listening to what I have to say, then I should tell you a bit about who I am. So that's where this podcast starts; who is Kris Soutar, why is he talking about tennis and what is the Tennis Journal about?

That introduction to my background and Kris Soutar's Tennis Journal Podcast is the prelude to the first half of a conversation with Louis Cayer. Through tennis, I am fortunate enough to meet many incredible people, Louis is one of them.

In this interview Louis explains his journey into tennis and tennis coaching.

Credits: I am grateful to Hue and Cry for their generous permission to use their music to introduce my podcast.
